Baking Powder Test-Birdy
Put a few tablespoons full of warm water in a dish and add 1/2 tsp. baking powder. If it doesn't fizz a bit, the baking powder is too old. They recommend not holding it more than 6 months after opening but I have had it work when older than that--but test it first. It's the humidity that kills it once it's opened.
