Maple Brownies=emr
1 stick butter 2 c. brown sugar 2 eggs 1-1/2 c. all-purpose flour 2 tsp. baking powder 1-2 tsp. maple flavoring (I use Mapleine) 1 c. chopped nuts (optional)
In heavy saucepan, heat butter and brown sugar until melted. Add eggs, one at a time. Beat well. Add flour and baking powder and mix well. Stir in maple extract and nuts, if desired. Spread in greased and floured 9x13 pan. Bake for 25 minutes. Cool in pan and cut into squares.
A couple of notes: To make this as Mama's original "Butterscotch Squares," just substitute vanilla for the maple flavoring. I think it would be interesting to try combining them -- 1 tsp. of each? And you can adjust the amount of flavoring to taste.
I haven't tried it but I think you could make this in a 9x9 pan to make a thicker brownie. Cooking time would need to be increased -- maybe 35 minutes?
