Starting things off here for us this morning.
Pippin, I did not see your request for the maple brownies recipe -- so sorry! I will get it on here this evening!
Marlene, yay for successful cinnamon rolls! It's so nice when you finally find a recipe that works for you. I bet you are enjoying them!
Tasty, glad to see that you got back home safely.
One more cup of coffee and then I'm off -- have a good day, everybody! I'll check back in this evening.

Good morning friends.
(((Helen))) I understand about going back to a place that you were at with someone who is no longer here. Church and a particular restaurant were difficult for me when my mother and brother passed.
Marlene, Congrats on the cinnamon rolls. That's on my bucket list.
Thank you for welcoming me back. I missed all of you.
Leftover chicken francaise for dinner tonight.
Enjoy your day.
Nancy

Good Morning ! Cinnamon rolls sound wonderful. I may have to see about making some soon. I use the Pioneer Woman's recipe. They have a maple icing. I like the dough a lot, it is easy to work with. Glad yours turned out well Marlene.
Speaking of sauerkraut, that is something I have always liked. So does DH. While we lived in Europe and traveled through Germany we especially liked the kraut there-it seemed milder, not quite so much of a "tang" to it, and we loved the caraway seeds in it.
Elza, the maple brownie recipe sounds great. I just ran across a recipe for snickerdoodle blondies that I plan on trying for the coffee shop.
Welcome home Tasty. Glad the visit with mum went well. Now to rest up and get back to your normal routine and time zone. I get hungry for salads too, but that is something DH cannot have. I bought a bag of salad to eat awhile back but it got left in the crisper, and I forgot about it so had to throw it out!
The show last night was very good. DH even enjoyed it. He is an excellent singer, but he is funny too. I could have listened to him a couple more hours. He has a huge range, so sang some songs high, imitating ladies like Olivia Newton John and Cher, but he also did a rendition of Julio Iglesias, and I loved that a lot!
My pie, and the dinner, was good, too. I combined a couple recipes for the pie and DH loved it. We ate some after we got back home.
I don't have plans for today. I am thinking of Italian Salisbury steaks for supper. I have made it before and had a note that it was good, but don't actually remember it!
Today is pretty with not a cloud in the sky, and should reach about 62 today. I heard the weatherman say more cold weather is in the long term forecast-yuck!

Emr..thanks..I’m looking forward to making them. Tamara, funny you should have commented as you did about the sauerkraut in Germany. Just this morning I came across this information in one of my German cookbooks: “ the secret is to always first rinse the sauerkraut with warm water, drain it well, then place the drained kraut with butter or some other fat in a tightly covered saucepan or casserole and simmer gently for half an hour before adding any other liquid. This gives the sauerkraut a delicate flavor entirely different from plain boiled kraut.” Thought that was interesting and will have to try it.

Thanks for starting us Elza. The cinnamon rolls were delicious. Glad they finally turned out.
Tammy sounds like you enjoyed your evening last night. Your supper sounded good too. I have a recipe Hamburger Bundles I need to look up. I used to make those all the time. They are in my old card recipe box.
Glad you had a nice visit with your Tasty. I know it is good to be back home too. I am sure she was so glad to see you too.
It is so foggy here this morning. I need to take the trash today. The waste basket fills up fast. Just happy to have a pick-up here and don't have to burn it. One of the town luxuries!!
Have a great day.

So far this morning I have spent time sorting out mum's finances. I have to keep decent records as I have p/a for her - she cannot see well enough to do that for herself anymore. Trying to find something that will give her some interest is tough. Interest rates over there are even worse than here and I cannot risk her money on the markets as her home costs are exorbitant.
Hubby has gone off to the dentist and then the gym. I'm going to find something forlunch and then head into the bank and post office.
Thanks for the welcome home 😊
Curling later on so supper will be soup and sandwiches.

Hello friends. Today is National Peanut Butter Day.
Elza, thanks for starting us today. You have me hungry for a slice of pecan pie after reading that it is one of your favorites--mine too.
Marlene, congrats on making your cinnamon rolls--so happy for you that you found a recipe that works! Ive always been scared of yeast, but I have gotten a little better since I now mix the dough in my bread maker, then turn it out from there and go by hand. Would like to try making cinnamon rolls at least once in my life.
((Helen)), what a hard day you had yesterday--big hugs to you! I understand and can related to what you went through. After all these years, I still have a had time, and tear up, when I hear a song that my parents liked. After my DB lived down here last year before his death in June, I find myself looking for him whenever I pass where he was living here in town. This past holiday season I smelled a bayberry candle in a store and it brought me to tears as I recalled my mother having one in our home as a child. As had as it can be, I am thankful for the wonderful memories of my loved ones.
Tammy, like you, I've always loved sauerkraut--I grew up having it often. Glad you and DH enjoyed your evening last night. Snickerdoodle blondies--that's different. Let us know how they turn out.
Pippin, the way your German cookbook tells you to rinse and warm the sauerkraut before adding any additional liquid is the way I was taught to do my sauerkraut way back maybe 50 years ago. My mother's parents were born in Hungary (Grandma's mother was born in Germany, taught school in Austria, before going to Hungary. Grandpa grew up in his parents restaurant in Budapest). My father's mother was also from Hungary. Growing up, as you might imagine, I ate mainly ethnic dishes and kraut was in several.
Tasty, wishing you and DH a fun evening with the curling.
Nancy, hope your work day went by quickly.
Dinner tonight will be roasted red pepper chicken. Thinking I'll cook some egg noodles to soak up some of that yummy gravy and broccoli will be our veggie.
Waving to all.
Lori

Lori, We have been to Hungary a number of times and have made friends with a couple in Budapest. They always take us to a restaurant that serves “real Hungarian food” and have enjoyed all of it. Budapest has become my favorite city in Europe. Is dinner tonite Chicken Paprikish by any chance?

Good late morning, friends! Whew! It's finally melting! The black ice was a problem today, but I managed to walk on it using my Yak Trax. Got my hair cut this morning...feels so good! Pippin - The potato dish you referred to last night is called "Himmel und Erde"...Heaven and Earth. "The apples are the "heaven" part of the name because they come from the trees up in the sky, and the potatoes are the "earth" because they come from the ground." [Spruce.com] Cookbook says you can serve it mashed or chunky. I was just now thinking that I should make it again because when DH goes to visit his friend next week, mom and I were going to have calves' liver and onions which he does not care for. That is the traditional German side to liver according to the author of my German cookbook. A favorite German recipe of mine is sauerbraten. I've been using a recipe I got in a 70's Good Housekeeping cookbook each time. BTW, my cousins were stationed in Memmingen near ULM. We visited them in the 80's. It was wonderful! Oh, the food...!!! Tammy - Glad you liked the concert! I agree with you on the German sauerkraut. I did taste milder. I think in some part it was further cooked down from the fermented cabbage in the recipes. I love caraway in it, too. When I make the homemade (only a small batch in a mason jar), I add caraway. Here's the link for the recipe (with info)that I use. I freeze what I don't use. Homemade Sauerkraut in a Mason JarMarlene - Burger bundles sound good. I looked up a TOH recipe that has a stuffing in between two burgers and then there's a sauce to serve with them. Tonight we are having "Bangers and Mash". I'm going to make spaghetti squash 'waffle'. Have to get a wiggle on. Have a great evening.

Hi. We had shuffleboard this morning. Now at 1I have a class called Making Buns for Dummies. I have the supplies ready to go. I will be bringing home 2 dozen buns. I can't wait to learn how as my buns usually have a hard bottom when I make then. After class I am going to go around the neighborhood handing out the directors. Then tonight I have 13 ( card game). So busy day.
Lori- I had peanut butter and choke cherry jelly on toast this morning.
Helen- hugs!
Time to go. Elaine

Ann, yes Hummel und Erde...my mind went blank when I was thinking of it...made it for dinner one night when we had 3 older ladies over for dinner...as we were finishing, one of them told me she didn’t like mashed potatoes but after her first bite, she could have eaten the whole bowl. Just sent your link for the sauerkraut in a mason jar to my son...odds are good that he will be making it soon as well as the kimchi. We were stationed close to Frankfurt in Wiesbaden for 3 years. Loved it too. I use my Grandmother’s recipe for sauerbraten...she never used ginger snaps in her gravy like so many recipe use though, do you?

I picked up my new glasses today. Print just seems to get smaller and smaller so hope these glasses will help. Stopped in to Target because I ran out of salt a couple days ago and didn't have a back-up. I guess since I buy it so seldom, it never occurred to me I might need some. Pretty sunny out today and 77*. There's a nice breeze through the house. It'll be hot dogs for supper tonite, fried to a crispy brown and covered with mustard, onions, and pickles. I'm making myself hungry! Thanks for understanding, friends. ❤️
