I have finished all of my Bess Crawford books and really liked them...there is a new one coming out in September, "Casualty of War" and am on the list for that one. In the meantime, I have started Charles Todd's Inspector Rutledge's first book, "A Test of Wills" and just the first chapter has been interesting. Any new good mystery authors out there?

I just finished The Magnolia Story by Chip and Joanna Gaines, the couple from Fixer-Upper on HGTV. An interesting read - different from my normal mystery. Almost seemed too good to believe.

I tried reading Fer-de-lance, a Nero Wolf book, by Rex Stout. I just couldn't get into it so I took it back to the library.
I haven't read a Catherine Coulter books in years but I picked up BLOWOUT. It started out odd but quickly changed. The main story is about the murder of a Supreme Court Justice. I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

I've just got the digital download for the latest in the Royal Spyness mystery series by Rhys Bowen. "London, 1930. Lady Victoria Georgiana Charlotte Eugenie, 34th in line for the English throne, is flat broke. She's bolted Scotland, her brother and greedy sister-in-law, and her fish-faced betrothed. London is a place where she'll experience freedom, learn life lessons aplenty, do a bit of spying for HRH—oh, and find a dead Frenchman in her tub. Now her new job is to clear her long family name..." There is a novella that gives the back story on the series called The Masked Ball at Broxley Manor which is a good place to start. The first full book in the series is Her Royal Spyness. These are funny, have a touch of romance, and a good mystery at the same time. She works in actual historical tidbits about the royals as well as life in general during that era. As with any series, it's best to read them in order.
Her long Molly Murphy series is excellent, too. It's set in NY City in the early 1900's and is more serious in nature. Good action and mysteries to solve. As with her other books, she paints a realistic picture of life for immigrants in the city during that era.

I also gave up on Into the Water.
I was wondering if anyone would like to share some of their favorite/memorable books with us. Not the childhood ones but some good adult reading. These 3 are the first to come to mind when I think of my most memorable ones. And the Ladies of the Club by Helen Hooven Santmyer. By the time I finished the book I felt like I knew these ladies.
Another would be A Place in the Woods by Helen Hoover. A true story of living in the wilderness. I'm an outdoor person so I really enjoyed reading of their experiences. Nope, I don't want to do that!
Next would be The Help by Kathryn Stockett. Hated to read the last page knowing it was the end.

I am reading The Black Book by James Patterson and David Ellis. Just finished Invisible by them as well, and The Dealer. All mystery, crime, law enforcement, thriller types. Good reads. I also read Curious Minds by Janet Evanovich and Phoeff Sutton. Kind of struggled to get thru as it wasn't that good and pretty typical JE style book which are sometimes too predictable.
Favorite books read as an adult would be The Help, The Harry Potter series, The Scorpio Races, and I openly admit I love The Twilight Saga!
