What a day! I'm going to be glad to fall into bed tonight. Like Bet, I'm good tired.
After thinking I wasn't going to be able to get the plants outside to harden off, I was able to do so after all. The rain stopped and the wind calmed down enough that I was comfortable with taking the flats outside and leaving them there most of the afternoon and into the evening. Since we were overcast and cloudy, I didn't end up needing to put up the second umbrella. I just put most of the flats in chairs next to the house. Nothing looked worse for the wear when I brought everything into the garage. Before we chatted with the kids tonight, I dragged the tables out to the garage and set them up so I could bring the plants in and leave them there until morning. Now that they are out of the house, they are on their own! DH couldn't wait to vacuum the mess that was left behind after the tables were gone. I am quite disappointed to see that some critter has nihilated my yarrow that I thought was safe. I dug it up last year and put it in a pot with the intention of planting it in a new place this spring. The pot was originally on the ground until I realized what had been a lush and growing cluster of yarrow was about half gone. I put the pot up on a wrought iron chair thinking that would be enough to keep what I assumed was rabbits from eating it. We really are overrun with bunnies in our backyard. I don't know how a rabbit would have jumped up onto the chair to eat the greenery, so I am now thinking either squirrels or chipmunks were the culprits. This time, I put wire around the entire pot to see if any yarrow will grow back. Time will tell.
DM had her phone off the hook most of the day today when I was trying to reach her. DSis#5 had called her this morning about going to church. DM wasn't up to going, and I guess she never hung the phone up right after that. Finally, #5 had to go over there tonight and hang it up for her. This time she took a pen and marked which way the cord is supposed to lay when the phone is hung up correctly. It may work for a while. We'll see.
I've been dragging my feet on putting things from the old van into the new one for some reason. I think I am still a bit queasy about whether or not I did the right thing. I guess it is too late now if I did. Anyway, after I laid down today I forced myself to sort through the stuff that had been in the glove box and other assorted treasures to see what needed to go into the new van and what could be thrown out. As it turned out, that was a very pleasant experience. This van has all sorts of nooks and crannies for me to put things. Much handier than me keeping a box of "stuff" in between the two front seats like I did in the old van. I'm feeling more comfortable now. I have decided that I will go with the extended warranty. DSis#3 and I talked about it. She said if it were her in my circumstances, she would buy it. DH can't help me so I have to be sure to have someone who can. I suspect this will bring me even more peace. I'm just not used to doing anything like this on my own.
The chat with the kids tonight was a lot of fun. DH gets so excited that he talks over each of us sometimes, but it was still good to see the kids and catch up. Mac enjoys playing with the filters on DSon's phone, so when we joined the call he looked like a warthog. LOL! One of his favorite animated characters is Bebop from The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Bebop is a warthog. I was asking about his T-ball game yesterday. DSon asked him what his favorite part of playing is. In typical kid fashion, he said the treats. 😂 DDIL is hoping that the baby stays put until his due date of June 11th. She will have a new ultrasound this week because of her age (she's 38 going on 39 in September). They are hoping to see the baby's face this time. He turned away from the camera the last time. I'm glad to hear she has such a generous maternity leave coming up. The company wants her to stop working a month before her due date and it does count against her total time off, but that is 6 months of paid leave. She's definitely ready for it. I never have enough time chatting with them, but what we got in was good.
Gayle, thanks for the reminder on what I will do with my impatiens. I have a strawberry pot also. Usually, I have bought wax begonias for that. Last year, though, I put impatiens in there and put them in a shady spot. They thrived there so I will be doing that again this year. It's going to be fun to get out and put everything in their places.
My brain has just decided it has had enough of today. It feels very much like it is time to head for bed. I hope to sleep well tonight. I may have pulled something in my side when I was either hauling out flats or scrubbing DH's bathroom floor. If I am tired enough, maybe that won't matter. I hope the day was good to everyone. G'night.
