Use only real maple syrup. Dark cooking grade gives the most flavor. Birdy
Maple Granola-birdy Recipe courtesy of: Burt Homestead Farm, Maple Products, Cold Brook, NY
• 1/2 c. maple syrup • 1/4 c. unsalted butter • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract • 3 cups old fashioned rolled oats • 1/2 c. roasted sliced almonds • 1/2 c. roasted walnut pieces • 1/2 c. sesame seeds • 1/2 c. sunflower seeds • 1/2 c. raisins • 1/2 c. dried cranberries. (Or other dried fruit of your choice!!)
Heat oven to 325 F.
Mix the maple syrup, unsalted butter, and vanilla extract. Cook over medium heat for 5 minutes (do not boil!)
Mix old fashioned rolled oats, roasted sliced almonds, roasted walnut pieces, sesame seeds, and sunflower seeds.
Pour liquid ingredients over dry ingredients and mix well. Spread mixture on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake for 30 minutes, stirring once or twice. Be careful. DO NOT BURN! Remove from oven and add dried fruit.
Let cool and package in airtight bags.
