Today is National Greasy Foods Day and World Pasta Day.
Late yesterday our neighbors called that they were having a "sprinkler party". They thought it would be a "fun way" to cool off (it did reach 93* late in the day) and gather neighbors together. Although DH and I went for a short while, neither of us put on our suits. We instead sat and enjoyed cold beverages, watching adults running like kids through several sprinklers and play on the slip and slide. There were several funny moments and we all decided that the heat "has to go".
Busy day on schedule so I thought it best to pop in early. I have several smaller errands around town and will probably end it with a stop in BJ's. Think I will need to save Publix until tomorrow. Right now I have bedding washing.
Sometime between all my running today I need to work on dinner. I will make Polynesian Chicken and serve it along side/over some rice and maybe a green salad.
Washer rang and is ready for the next load. I'll close waving to all and wishing everyone a fabulous Friday.

Good morning Lori and all y'all ~
Had to laugh at Greasy Food Day. One of my coworkers said she and her DH have "Fat Food Fridays" so sounds like they are celebrating properly today! LOL What fun getting together and enjoying the sprinklers! Nice way to visit and cool off.
This weekend is my 40th high school class reunion. DH & I will go to the dinner/dance tomorrow night but not planning to attend the football game tonight. It will probably be a good game -- my high school team has won the AA state championship 3 years in a row -- but since rain is in the forecast, that's a "no."

Good morning friends,
Lori- I, too am chuckling about Greasy Food Day. I just shouted it out to my co-workers and they all laughed and had great ideas for lunch today! Just saying, I would love your heat! We have done the sprinkler thing and love doing it regardless of my age! LOL That is why I love my GS! Gives me an excuse to act up! LOL
Elza- 40 years! Cool. This is my 48th year this year! We are a regional school district o have had only two reunions since 1971. Wish we had more.
Well I need to get to work now.

Grease . . . one of my mother's favorite ingredients! LOL! My brother enjoyed telling his doctor about how my Mom would serve a nice fatty pork roast and warn us to eat it up before the fat got cold! LOL! Ahhh! The good old days.
I'm glad I got out for my ride yesterday--it's raining this morning and will be in the 50's all day. I can't even remember what 93 feels like. That sprinkler party sounds like fun--a good excuse to enjoy a second childhood. LOL!
I plan to finally get around to making my beef and barley soup today. I never did do it the other day when I made the chili instead. It sounds as though the temperatures will call for soup this weekend as it is getting cooler again. We've had some warmer temperatures for this time of the year so far--with 63 two days ago. I keep waiting for the weather boom to fall.
Bet--you asked about my neighbor who passed away the other day and I forgot to answer. Yes, this is the man with the same name as his cousin who got us all confused earlier this year. He was well known in the community as a police captain for a number of years and doubtless there will be a very large turnout at the funeral home and funeral itself. The funeral isn't until Tuesday because of conflicts with the funeral director so it is going to conflict with something I can't rearrange. I was talking with a neighbor yesterday and she said she hadn't sent food because she figured they were overwhelmed with it already. Too true! Big extended Italian family plus friends = piles of food. Plus, they are good friends with two well-known restaurants and bakeries. No shortage for a long time.
Ann--sounds like you need more practice with taking your pictures! LOL! Keep your fingers on the edge of the phone--not over the lens! I've notice that there are some birds hanging around longer here, too. I think it must be the warmer weather we've been having. And I saw a Monarch butterfly yesterday. That little one better truck on south before it is too late.
I'm glad to hear that Raeann is doing a little better. My prayers continue for her.
My coffee is almost gone which is a sign that I must begin my day. I'm running slow this morning!

We had a hard freeze last night and is 25* yet this morning. Had my coffee and doing second load of wash. Not many clothes but will be done.
Lori when you make your Fruitcake do you use the brandy? Also do you put in mixed dried fruit? I was thinking of apricots and pineapple.I got the jar of mincemeat and two boxes of no sense mincemeat. Just was wondering how you make yours.
I need to take some things out of freezer and use up so I will have room for storage of Christmas things. I have been putting lots in there lately.
Pat is having her headaches for last 2 weeks and seeing things like bright lights and so she is having an MRI today. I hope it can be taken care w/medicine if it shows anything. Just hope it is nothing serious. I have been so worried her. She did not get to go look at leaves instead her DD came down for 4 days and stayed with he. She is a nurse and she said her Mom is not showing any signs of stroke so that was good.
Well I sure don't know any news today just glad I got the yard all mowed yesterday they are talking white stuff next week.

MARLENE - I just said a prayer for Pat. I hope they find something not serious.

Bruce makes a great chilli but all I know is he puts in bushes chilli beans and kidney beans, chopped tomatoes with green chillies, chilli powder and hamburger!

Afternoon! What a difference a day makes...today is very cool and cloudy. Took mom to the hairdresser and once back to AL I helped her with her pills. We're having a stir-fry tonight. I'm using the usual vegetables and the sprouted mung beans I started earlier in the week. The tails of the beans are not as long as those you can buy at the store, but they taste the same. I'm just going to add leftover rotisserie chicken and serve it with leftover spaghetti. I'll use the usual seasonings...garlic, ginger, soy, sesame oil, sriracha, and sambal oelek chili. May or may not have it with Aldi eggrolls. The only greasy food we eat regularly is bacon, I'd say. But, I haven't had bacon since mom moved to AL. We would usually have bacon and eggs on the weekend. I do cook with bacon fat...the Brussels sprout & sweet potato salad had it in it. BTW...that was really good. Next time, I'd cut the sweet potato a bit smaller. Lori - Summers growing up, jumping in and out of a sprinkler was the only way we cooled down. Once in a while, we'd go to one of the municipal pools. Does your Polynesian chicken have pineapple in it? I was reading on another cooking FB site...the Corner Café...about using pineapple to tenderize meat...takes very little time to do so because longer times would turn the meat into mush...ick! It didn't have anything to do with using pineapple as an ingredient; the pineapple was rinsed off before cooking the meat. Interesting read. Elza and Tammy - I think it was Susan Lynn who posted the pineapple marinade info. Would you try it? I may try it with some round steak. Elza - Enjoy your reunion. I didn't go to my 50th because no one in my circle of friends were going either. Tammy - I'm confused...where do you do your laundry...the apartment? Elaine - Hope the meds for the UTI have worked quickly. Bet - I have some "night driving glasses" that I used to use when I had to drive at night. Now I just don't go out. They are on Amazon...yellow tint. They work really well especially dulling oncoming headlights. Well, iced coffee is almost gone and I got the caffeine kick that I needed. Back to the kitchen!!! Waving! PS Hope Betsy is OK with those dang wildfires.

I was thinking of Betsy, too. Those fires are just so frightening.
Bet--I figure I'm going to be looking at eye surgery myself one of these days although for now I'm not having problems. At night, I do get halos around bright lights and really don't like driving after dark. Luckily, with the city lights it isn't so bad but country roads with oncoming traffic is another thing. If you are having cataract surgery, I have to say that I know so many friends and relatives who have had it with no problems that it reassures me. I'm not thrilled with someone messing around with my eyes but they took it in stride--even my sister-in-law who is a drama queen when it comes to health procedures.
Marlene--perhaps Pat is dealing with migraine auras with those lights. Thankfully, I don't get headaches but I get the auras every once in a while. The first time I saw them years ago, I freaked out and left from work to the eye doctor because I thought I was getting a detached retina. They show up as a shimmering patch of light which starts in the upper corner of my vision and slowly heads to the lower corner over half an hour of time. I'm so used to them now that I can almost predict how long it will take. I can go months or almost a year without one and then have a cluster within a few weeks. They are harmless but unnerving. I have since found out that there are quite a few people who get them. Thank heaven that I don't have the headaches to go with them.
I gave into temptation while out today and bought a frozen lasagna from the pasta shop. I haven't had one in a long time. Everything is made from scratch including the pasta sheets. Yum. That's supper tonight. Soup will wait until this weekend.
Ann--I didn't go to my 50th either--for the same reason. Elza--enjoy yours. I'm jealous. LOL!
Elaine--fingers crossed that you are feeling better.
I have heard about pineapple being a tenderizer. I think that's why they warn you not to use fresh pineapple in jello because the enzymes mess with the jelly forming. Are the cooks using fresh or canned pineapple juice? From what I've read, fresh juice tenderizes but canned juice just flavors. Haven't tried it myself.
Later.

My sleeper sofa was just delivered. I like it. That does it for major purchases, I hope. I'm going to an evening event with the kids tonite. There will be dinner there so no cooking for me. Your sprinkler party sounds like fun, Lori. I'm having actual rain and temps in the 50's today. I'll need a shawl tonite. Hugs, Elaine. Sweet dreams to all.

Birdy that sounds exactly what is happening with her. She said they put fluid in her veins and done the test. She said she was pure white!! she did not like the test! Her DD told her they were Aura strikes on her eyes. She told her she was not having a stroke. But then she gets the darn Migrains. I don't know if there is anything they can do for her.

Haven't felt much like chatting today. Have spent a great deal of time on the phone getting estimates of what this cataract surgery is going to cost me. It in mind boggling but it has to be done. Called to get my appointment with the surgeon changed from late Monday to something earlier in the day so I am home way before dark. It seems he only does consultations on Monday and Tuesday afternoon. Then found out which no one told me yesterday they have to dilate my eye so need a driver. Have contacted DD but haven't hear back from her when she might be able to take me. At the moment I have an appointment for Tuesday at 1:15 but if she can't get off work I need to cancel that. Got my copay figures from him. Then I contacted the Surgical Center where the surgery will be done and got that copay. Found out there that the anesthetist is a separate billing so call them for estimate on my copay there. It was nasty outside all day. Overcast and cold early and then rain this afternoon. Didn't even go outside for any reason. Did try out my new yogurt machine and that is almost done. Updated the inventory on one freezer in the basement but when I went to do the next one I had moved some thing to different bins and it got so complicated that I will go down and rewrite the contents per container and location and start over in the computer. I just finished shampooing the carpet I started a couple of weeks ago so that is finally done.
Dinner tonight is tuna noodle casserole from the freezer and fresh broccoli that I cooked the other day. Night time snack may be Chocolate frozen yogurt that Annabelle and I made today.
Have a great evening

Hi !
Another busy day so I am late getting here.
I hope everyone had a good day. Helen and I went to Jack in the Box for lunch so I guess that would count as a greasy food. She had a burger and fries, and I had fries with a grilled chicken sandwich.
The renter sent a text and said the microwave did not work. It was in storage and we had not tried it out. So, as soon as I dropped off Helen I went back to town and bought a new microwave.
Guess I will fix the salmon for supper and a Schwan's side. Maybe mini bow tie pasta with mixed veggies.
All day has been drizzly and pretty cool.
The sprinkler party sounds like a blast!
Elza, I hope you have as much fun at your reunion as I had at mine.
I hope Pat can get a solution to her headache problem.
Ann-yes, I do laundry in the apartment. That is where the w/d are. There are some hook ups in the house but it would block the doggie door. We would have to have a stackable unit in the house or else move the 2nd fridge. She said I could come in at any time and do laundry, but I don't want to take advantage. I will try to stick to a certain day at the least and hopefully a time of day.
Remember Steak and Ale restaurants ? They had a marinated steak that had pineapple juice in it and I loved it!
Helen, I hope you enjoy tonight.
Better get busy cooking some dinner. Have a super weekend.

Birdy, I know many people who have had successful cataract surgery including my DB who was recent. However there are things that can go wrong. My DSoIL has basically lost the sight in his eye since surgery with no explanation from anyone. The only sight I have is in this eye so if something goes wrong I would be blind. I try not to think about it but that is a big order.

Marlene, I followed the recipe for the fruitcake recipe posted by Ann exactly as written, which includes the the mixed candied fruit soaked overnight in brandy. After baking, I also brushed on some brandy before wrapping it up. I will be honest with you, I've not tasted the cake, but I only made one last year and sent it to my brother who declared it a keeper. Since he liked it so much, I decided to make him two of them to keep in his refrigerator (a fruitcake with any brandy, whiskey etc. on it can last in a refrigerator up to 3 years or a freezer for 1 year). DH requested one this year, so late December I will probably taste it myself and see what I think of it.
Ann, yes the Polynesian Chicken recipe did indeed have pineapple in it, can of chunks. It was the 1st time I made the recipe, but it won't be the last. DH and I really liked it--easy, tasty, and tender.
Tammy, I sure do remember the Steak and Ale. We has one here in town. I only was able to enjoy dinner there once before it closed and sadly I don't recall anything about the place other then I liked it.
Falling asleep as I write, so I'll write more tomorrow. Goodnight.
