Good afternoon friends. Been a loooonnggg Weekend for me that's for sure. But my dear brother is laid to rest and pain free. They told us in 1998 he had 10 years at best. He said " wanna bet" LOL That was him.
Nancy- So sorry for your DH and not being able to see his brother. So sad. Give him a great big hug from me.
I have a awesome friend here that has been my friend for more than 30 years. She has been through so much with me and she was there all this week end and was so comforting. I really love her for this. Just make sure you all love your family while you can. I sure am going to miss my Big brother.

First, hugs to Chris and Nancy......our thoughts are with you.
I am staying home for a quiet week-end...we will grill if it doesn't rain. Had heavy rain and a lot of fireworks last night and about a 40% chance of rain today.
Have a great holiday week-end. Doris

Just woke up from a little snooze in my chair!! Chuck called that is what woke me. He was going out to mow and his wife Linda went into town to get her parents to take them to the b-day party for Noah the DGS which is Jason's son. He will come and pick me up at 4:30 to go to Jason's for the b-day party. Jason called and invited me the other day so I got a Raspberry Kringler to take so will slice it and put on pretty glass plate.
Went to Church but have not done much since. It is a lazy day. The thunder sure woke me up last night. Sounded like it hit right here. Was looking for down trees but did not see any. Looks like rain every day here at least it is in the forecast. If possible I will try to mow again tomorrow to keep it all up.
Glad there is your friend close to you right now Chris. It is a tough thing to go through. I have had enough of them for quite sometime for me. The lady who I bought my headstone from lost her DH and funeral is Wednesday. He ended up with stage 4 lung cancer after they could not find out what was wrong with him. Pretty sad as he was 74 yrs. old. He was a barber in little town so he is missed too. Sue and I have became very close so will stop and see her when she gets back to work. I will go to visitation on Tuesday as I have appt. with heart Dr. on Wednesday.
Have a great week-end everyone.

It's plenty hot still so no plans for Labor Day picnic. It's supposed to rain sometime, too. Supper tonite will be ham steak and corn on the cob. I had some leftover sauerkraut for lunch and it was even better than the first time. Thanks for thinking of me, Doris. It's slow going so far for house showings. Realtor tells me August is slow anyway and the red tide/algae situation has buyers on edge. I'm far enough away that we don't get the awful smell but people do move here for the beach so it could be a factor. "In the fullness of time" as my Hubby would say. :)

Hi, all. Chris--I understand how one of those long weekends feels. I'm glad you had someone there for you. Nancy--so sorry for your DH and that he never had a chance to see his brother.
I've had a mostly lazy day--it has looked threatening all day and is in the low 80's with nasty humidity again. I managed to mow the lawn this morning around 9:30 and had no sooner cleaned up the mower and put it away than it began to rain! We weren't expected that so early in the day. I'm so glad I managed to get it done--the rest of the week doesn't look good at all. Not too much rain but possible heat advisories and humidity.
I got on the move later in the morning and made a small peach pie for myself. I do it the lazy way. I use one refrigerated pie crust in a 6"-inch pie pan, add half the filling recipe for a 9" pie and then fold the crust a number of times toward the center, crimping as I go, until the filling is mostly covered with a hole in the center. It works pretty well and is perfect if you are lazy like I am. I bake the pie at 425 for 10 minutes and then turn down the oven to 375 for about 30 or longer until the filling and crust are done. That way, the crust that is folded cooks well all the way through. Works for me!
I'm really looking forward to some fresh peach pie for supper! I picked up a rotisserie chicken yesterday and plan to have a chicken, bacon, and lettuce sandwich on French bread with it for tonight.
It's acting like we might get another shower again. I just checked the weather map and there's another line of rain coming from the west. They pop up and then they disappear again so who knows if it will find us?!
Have a good evening, everyone.
Birdy

Hi everyone!
Just popping in to say hi, and then I will head to the kitchen and start baking the pecan cobbler. After church we went to a cafeteria so we are all stuffed. We are having pulled pork sandwiches and also fried green tomatoes, but hopefully much later in the day. Ed and Susan still have to drive back to San Antonio, so may want to leave at a reasonable time. They are my son's in-laws.
I hope everybody has a good holiday tomorrow. I'm not sure we have any plans at this point. We brought half a brisket so might end up eating that.
Bye for now friends.

Hello friends. Getting on here a bit late today.
Betsy, 2 hours away for college isn't bad at all. At least you don't have to worry about flights when the holidays come around.
Chris, It's so nice to have a good friend to be there for you.
Birdy, I need to mow the lawn to but just don't feel like it. I'll have to do it tomorrow before I go back to work.
Tammy, Brisket sounds good and I haven't made it in a while.
Thanks for starting us off Doris. You did just fine.
I'm making steak for dinner tonight.
Enjoy the rest of your evening.

A good, but late, hello to all.
I was busy today from the time I got up. After making breakfast, I placed some ribs in the slow cooker. While they cooked away, I canned some salsa. I haven't canned anything in close to 35 years and I wasn't really planning to, however, my niece sent me a package of salsa mix (Mrs. Wages). It said on the package you could freeze it or can it; for some reason or another I told myself go with the canning. My goodness, I forgot how much work canning is. Mom and I use to do it together, but now having to do it by myself, very time consuming, but I did it! I had a tiny bit that didn't fit into a jar that I tasted and sadly, both DH and myself found it to have a stronger vinegar taste then we like and it was very watery compared to the stuff we buy in a jar. Told my niece it was just okay and not to waste her $ sending me more.
When I cleaned up the kitchen I then made a batch of Depo's baked beans and a green bean casserole to go with the ribs for our dinner this evening.
Waving to all.
