Good morning! Friends, here we are in September and today we celebrate National Cherry Popover Day, National Gyro Day, and International Bacon Day. Enjoy!
Last night after we ate dinner I went over to BJ's to get some items, one being ground beef. However, after the recall of Publix on their ground beef, there was none left in the counter at BJ's. Luckily I still have a few pounds in the freezer.
Not sure what I will be cooking for dinner today, but I believe grilling will be out due to the weather. Currently 74* our high later should be around 92* before more rain arrives. At this point we are experiencing some minor street and river flooding and with 80%-100% rain chance everyday we could see more in the low lying areas.
Need to go finish my grocery list so I can hit the stores this morning. Waving to all and wishing you a wonderful day. TTYL.

And they are off! Well, almost. puppies are waiting in the car, so as soon as I pack up the computer we will leave. Just wanted to pop in and say hello.
I will check in later, hope it's a good day, and I am praying for those who will be having a hard day.

Tammy--I'm sure I'm late with this for you but have a safe drive. Thinking of those who are having a difficult weekend. Hugs. National Gyro Day--I can relate to that. One of my favorite sandwiches. I had one as a special at the diner the other day. It was pretty good considering the folks that run the place are Italian. They had so much yogurt sauce in it, though, that it was really messy to eat. I nearly had to use a knife and fork even thought it was wrapped. I've never heard of a cherry popover. I had to look them up. Making the individual ones seems like a lot of work but I found a recipe using dried cherries that makes one large popover in a 2-quart dish. Sounds good--I think it would make a nice brunch dish. www.realsimple.com/food-recipes/browse-all-recipes/dried-cherry-popoverTime to check the grass to see if it has dried enough to mow. Hope you have a nice day, all. Birdy

Good morning friends.
Lori, We still have our land line. I keep it as I don't want solicitors calling my cell phone. As for my uniform, it's a blue polo shirt. We have to wear black pants. I just went to a uniform store and bought 2 pairs of pants.
School starts Tuesday and we're having another heat wave starting that day .
Birdy, We have a Greek restaurant near us called Stamna that gets rave reviews. I should go there and get a gyro as I like them too. Do you like the lamb gyros? Because some places will use beef.
Betsy, Smart to get DD flu shot now and get it out of the way. It's nice that your DD has found a friendly room mate. How far is the college from where you live?
Last night we ate out at one of our favorite pizza places. They make thin crust pizza. We ordered 3 pies, one plain, one pepperoni and one with sausage and onions. We had buffalo wings too.
Thank you for all your prayers. DH called the funeral parlor yesterday and asked if he could see his brother. He was too late, he was at the creamatorium. The memorial service is next Saturday.
Have to run for now.
Enjoy your day.
Nancy

Good morning friends.
It's cloudy here this morning but no doubt will clear and be hot.
Nancy, sorry to hear your dh couldn't see his brother. That's terrible.
No cooking for me today. We have bbques planned here Sunday and Monday. So I may do some prep but we will eat out today.
I am taking the girls to Target later to try to get the dorm items dd needs. Nancy, UCLA is about 142 miles from our house. On a good traffic day it would be about 2 hours. The traffic between San Diego and LA is a nightmare. Usually due to construction that never ends. Both of our older kids went to college in LA as well and it seems like the same construction is till going on. Luckily dd's move in day is a Saturday afternoon so we should be good with traffic.
Have a safe drive, Tammy. Sending a hug to all that need one.
Have a great day.
Betsy

All of your food sounds good!! I should not be hungry. I just went to town and got few things as I want to make the squash and Zucchini casserole again. It was so good. I have been buying bags of ice and so much handier to have. Did get 1/2 of cantaloupe and looked good but not much flavor. I also bought a new lawnmower!! They will deliver it Tuesday. I bought a Zero Radius 60" Toro this time. They quit making the Dixon mower that I have. It was a 52" Zero Radius and have not had any trouble with it just a broken belt. Mine is 3 years old and wanted to get some money back out of it. They will come and get it and pick it up if needed repairs or just to go over it.
Betsy sounds like your days are busy there. Getting one to college and new granddaughter sounds like fun!! My DGD's just place first and one 8th in Cross Country Friday. They had a huge hill to up this time But Paige got First and Piper 8th. Piper still has a tender foot and coach's are watching her close and not letting her do much in exercises. They both Love to run and sure this is making Piper really disgusted. Sure don't want her to injure it more either.
Better get my trash out and get rid of the smelly cantaloupe rind too!

Afternoon! Cool and partly cloudy today, but it was WONDERFUL!!! Duchess kitty slept on her pillow on the back porch all day; now she's bugging me to go upstairs and feed her!!! We're having my birthday dinner tonight...porterhouse steak on the grill, corn, peppers & onions fried spuds. Nancy - UGH on the weather next week; hope it's the last of it. This summer was the "worst" on record. I hesitate to complain too much because others have had very destructive weather with tornados and heavy rain flooding. Another two folks have been sickened with the Legionnaires; I sure didn't know a hot tub could be to blame; thought it was just AC systems. Chris - Sending hugs. Marlene - Wow! That's a huge lawnmower; hope it holds up for you. I mentioned to my mom this morning that I thought the farm stand tomatoes we got so far have been unremarkable in taste. I didn't enjoy the prosciutto wrapped cantaloupe that was served at the anniversary party we went to last month; it was tasteless. Know what you mean about getting trash out to avoid the smells. I have a plastic grocery bag holder called "In Bin" that hangs on our pantry wall near where I prep food. It's so convenient to just throw the little bag out when I'm done. Betsy - Today was "Christmas Day" in the college areas of Boston/Cambridge. Kids moving out put their unwanted "trash" on the sidewalk for any takers. The news station showed two kids picking up a big AC and some bookcases. I'd take those kind of things, but upholstered chairs and mattresses...no! Lori - Another scary food story...! Sorry you couldn't get burger...I have 2 pounds in the freezer, too. Going to make a beef and cabbage pie from TOH this week. Will adapt and use the rest of the potato recipe I made for tonight as the "crust". LINKTammy - Hope your trip was fine. Birdy - Like Gyros, but like Shwarma more! I make homemade with ground lamb, hummus, tabouli and pita. Time to go upstairs to mom's. Kitty is back asleep on the porch!!! HA!

Hello to All,
Safe travels to all of you who are on the road......hope your trips are fun and uneventful.
Chris and Nancy, hugs to both of you.....I am so sorry for your losses, always painful to deal with.
Helen, Hugs to you. I do hope you are getting some strong showings and will soon get an acceptable offer on your property. I am sure that you are anxious to join you family in the Dallas area. I grew up East of Dallas and still have family that lives in Keller and in Gun Barrel City.
I will spend a quiet week-end at home as both DGS's are working....a drive in the mountains would be nice but not on a holiday week-end. I am sure that there isn't a camp site to be had as everyone who camps is getting in one last trip before the snow flies.
Marlene I am glad to hear DGD's are doing well...sure hope Piper's foot issues improve so she can be at 100% again. I hope the new mower measures up to your standards.
Have a great and safe holiday week-end to all.
Doris

The smoke alarms decided to start chirping a warning that the batteries are low last nite at 9:30. I knew that meant the full siren would start wailing sometime in the middle of the nite. Our ceilings are quite high so I couldn't climb a ladder to change the batteries -- even if I had them which I didn't. An angel neighbor helped me out so all was well in the end. I rewarded him with some apple cider donuts that I had just picked up at Publix yesterday. (They are delicious!) Today has been much quieter, thank goodness. I'm cooking pork and sauerkraut for supper and whipped up a pasta salad for tomorrow. Looks like more rain any minute. I'll be reading. Sweet dreams.

Hi again! We made it here fine, and I got to sleep most of the way.
DS grilled burgers for lunch and I am still full. I told DDIL with us eating breakfast from McDonald's we did not need anything big for supper. I think she put together a mixed bean dish with some smoked sausage. We had smoked pork butt in the freezer that we brought and it is thawing. We will make some pulled pork sandwiches, I am going to fry the green tomatoes, make a pecan cobbler for tomorrow. DDIL's parents are coming in for the day. I'm not sure what time we will eat. We usually go out after church for lunch, so the pork will probably be for supper.
I saw that the Houston area had a very good chance of rain all weekend and in to Monday. I hope it's better here, even though I am sure they need the rain.

Hello again. I've been unable to get to the computer until now as it is in a room that was blocked all day while DH was painting. Three coats of paint later, the hallway looks nice, paint tools are cleaned up, DH is already sleeping, and I've come to play on the computer for a few minutes before I read my book.
(((Nancy))) and (((Chris)))
Weather forecasters sure called it wrong today. We were suppose to see rain and lots of it, but so far not a drop. With no rain to cool us down, it was a sticky hot 94*.
While forced pretty much to the kitchen and out of DH's way, I made strawberry freezer jam, a pot of chili which I froze in individual servings, and a pasta salad. I took the easy way out for dinner this evening--Sea Pac popcorn shrimp, my pasta salad, and an ear of corn for each of us.
Goodnight to all. Talk to you again tomorrow. Sweet dreams.
