Jumping in early to say hello -- off to a busy day at work, but then a long weekend to follow! Pretty happy about that. DH & I are heading down to spend a couple days with DMIL. We will celebrate his brother's birthday while we're there, and watch some football. Sounds good to me.
I went to a fundraiser event for a local charity last night with my manager -- the bank had sponsored a table. It was a Football Kickoff theme, so there were lots of booths selling team-related merchandise. In SC you are either for Univ. of South Carolina or Clemson, and where I live is right next door to Clemson, so that was definitely in the majority. Of course I am a USC fan, but there was a nice boutique selling some really pretty things -- I got a pretty (and tasteful!) Gamecock necklace. The best part of the event was the food. Our favorite BBQ place was there, and they also had a food truck from the Pound Cake Man. Yes -- a business that sells nothing but pound cakes. It was glorious. There was supposed to be a fashion show as well, but when we left, 15 minutes before the ending time, it had not started yet! Don't know what was going on behind the scenes there.
Anyway, hope you all have a wonderful weekend and a happy Labor Day!

Sounds like a fun evening Elza! Have a great long weekend 😊
It's the end of another month so that means breakfast with friends. We are returning to the place where we can eat outside - it is such a pretty summer morning here but we may want light jackets.
After that, I will probably do some grocery shopping then work outside.
Have a fabulous Friday 😊.

Elza have a fun week-end. Would be a nice week-end not cooking and eating out! sounds like you had a fun evening last night also.
Tasty enjoy your breakfast out. Marge and I are eating out this morning. I have to pick her up at 9:00. We always meet at the airport and go from there. We are also going to Penney's. I ordered some blouses on clearance and kept one out of five. I say five but they did not send one and sent a drape instead?? So will take back to store. I need to stop at Walgrens and get my White Shoulders powder as I am about out already. Like to use after bath.
Hope everyone has a great day and Chris hugging you tight as today and tomorrow will be hard for you.

Chris--thinking of you. It's cooled down. Last night in the 50's felt so good. They actually hit 37 in Saranac Lake in the mountains to the northeast of me. Somehow I think we won't be seeing that again for a while. Next week is supposed to be near 90 all week with humidity again. Sigh! I took myself out to the Boulevard diner yesterday--a favorite place. I forgot that Thursdays are Cream of Pepperoni Soup day. I get it maybe once or twice a year because I can practically feel my arteries blocking up after eating it but it is strangely addicting. You really have to like pepperoni. It's a specialty of this place--the first one posted at this link is probably about as close as you are going to get www.applecrumbles.com/2010/01/17/cnyeats-a-taste-of-utica-pepperoni-soups/. Basically, it's finely minced pepperoni in a cream sauce base. That's pretty much it. The pepperoni has so much flavor that anything else would be overkill. It's a soup that you definitely eat by the cup, not the bowl! I may try to make it sometime with reduced-salt pepperoni. Maybe if I use 1% milk and the lower-sodium pepperoni I will make it into health food. LOL! I haven't decided what to do for supper tonight. It is going to be such a lovely day that I may take a sandwich out to my favorite trout stream and do some birding while eating. That's my favorite way for going out for supper! LOL! Have a good day, all. Birdy

Afternoon, friends! It's a glorious, wish I could bottle it, day. We will have another day, and then the muggies will return. Thinking of you, Chris! Elza - Glad you had a good time last night! I haven't had a good pound cake in a long time...! Birdy - Interesting soup. I wonder if it would be awful using Greek yogurt as part of the cream base. I just put up some fresh cauliflower to ferment using kimchi ingredients. Will have to wait until next Saturday to taste it, though! Easy supper tonight...Aldi's pizza and a salad. Talk later! Waving! Ann

Ann--I don't think the yogurt would work. At least, I can't imagine it.
Making kimchi from cauliflower--interesting. But, of course, kimchi is made with napa cabbage and they are in the same family. I haven't used kimchi much because it always seems to be in larger jars than I want for myself. I found a small jar the other day and it's waiting for a tasting. With all of the Asian immigrants we have in town, few are from the kimchi tradition so it doesn't show up much in restaurants around here.
I may have an easier supper--I think I will go out. There's a café I like that broils haddock on top of baby spinach--it's soo good. And they always have a couple of hush puppies on the side--a true rarity here in central NY!

Good Afternoon ! Hugs to those in our group who are going through some difficult times.
The day is half over and nothing much has gotten done here. First we planned on going over to the center and having breakfast with Carl and Marge, but I got a text from them at 8 saying they were not coming. So, I did what any red blooded lazy bones would do and went back to bed! I got up around 9:15. I showered and washed my hair. Then Helen called and wanted to go out to lunch and do a little shopping. I did not have time to bake anything, so put that off until later. I picked her up and we stopped by the drugstore, then went to Joe's for lunch. Joe's Italian is where I ate last night but I did not tell her that! I had pizza last night anyway, and today I got spaghetti. She was hungry for some shrimp and pasta so she got the shrimp alfredo. We stopped by the grocery store and then came back home. As I was turning in the key for the car, I ran into Carl and Marge. They are filling out paperwork to become residents here. We said goodbye as we get home Monday night and they plan to leave Tuesday and head back to Arizona. They may end up staying a few days more as they need to get a doctor's appt and have an ekg, and their doctor in AZ has moved away.
I am softening a stick of butter and plan on making Tasty's apricot almond bars. When those are done I will run them over to the coffee shop.
I also have to pack and bathe both dogs. I plan on making a pan of brownies to take with us.
I am not sure about supper. I am not even hungry. I have not thawed anything just yet. I will check with DH and see what he is in the mood for. We have enough green tomatoes that I could fry some of those.
Be safe everyone!

Hello all.
DD and I made the mistake of going to Costco this morning but I needed meat for bbques this weekend. She got a flu shot while we were there as the dr. doesn't have it yet. I wanted her to have it done as early as possible so she has immunity. DD got her room assignment and her roommate names. One of them contacted her right away and they have been chatting. She is from Colorado. The other one isn't really chatting with them.
Dinner will be club sandwiches. Poppy isn't coming over tonight so I am going to take it easy. I bought her a pack and play today so they can relax when they are here.
Have a great Friday.

Good afternoon friends. Today is Eat Outside Day and National Trail Mix Day.
I've stopped in to read earlier today, but haven't posted due to a very bad headache. Once the heavy rains began around 1PM, I was hoping the pain would ease some and finally it is. Thank goodness! Unfortunately, heavy rains are called for this holiday weekend through next Wednesday, so I might be fighting another headache down the road.
When no work came in today, early this morning I ran over to the school board. Even though I informed them of a change in my contact number, they needed something in writing.
(((Nancy and family))) and (((Chris and family))), keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers.
Elza, have a good weekend--safe travels.
Tammy, safe travels you you and DH as well.
Tasty, hope you had a yummy breakfast out with friends.
Marlene, I hope you enjoyed spending time with Marge's and enjoyed your breakfast out too.
Birdy, I haven't felt well enough to look at the recipe link, but I will--it sounds so good. DH and I are big soup eaters.
Ann, DH and I once had a pizza from Aldi's and we really like it. However, the nearest Aldi's is probably 15-20 miles north of us, so we don't get there often.
Betsy, smart idea to have had DD get her flu shot now before school begins. I need to get mine, but the Wellness Clinic where DH works doesn't have it yet. I need to get blood work done two weeks from today, so maybe they'll have it by then.
Dinner tonight will be meatballs, mashed potatoes, and green beans.
Bye for now.

Breakfast was yummy, Lori. I had just about made my mind up about what I was going to order when somebody at the table mentioned 'specials'. Checked the board and it looked like lunch specials to me BUT one of them was a tomato/cheddar quiche. We asked, and yes, it was available if we wanted that. 2 of us jumped at that and it was so good, an individual cherry tomato quiche with home-fries 👍.
Hope your headache has gone by now Lori.
I haven't made the apricot almond bars in a while Tammy. Thanks for reminding me!
Marlene, hope you and Marge had a good breakfast too and successful shopping!
Enjoy the cooler temperatures while they last Birdy - I think they will be short lived. I'll pass on artery clogging soups even tho it does sound yummy!
Cool weather for you too, Ann. I'm loving it. I even took a very light short sleeved cardigan with me when I went for breakfast this morning. Didn't need it - the patio was closed as there were too many yellow jackets for anyone to sit outside safely!
It's getting to flu vaccine season, Betsy and a good ideafor your daughter to have it before setting off for college. I'll bet she's getting nervous and excited as the time draws closer! Hope you're not having Poppy withdrawal symptoms 🙄.
Taco salad and local corn for us tonight.
