Good morning friends.
Ugh I can't stand this hot weather!
Betsy, Congrats to Camille! That is quite an honor.
Sad news here. DH got a call yesterday that his brother passed away. He had been divorced for years so he lived alone. We don't know the details yet.
I have to go to work this morning for a few hours as we have a catering job.
Enjoy your day.

Today is our last afternoon golf game - next week we will have our banquet - so no cooking tonight. The meals we have had on a Wednesday evening have been so good this year. I'm hoping the weather co-operates as there is a good chance of thunderstorms this afternoon while we are still having hot and humid weather.
I am thinking of baking some muffins this morning. There's also a great pile of tomatoes and zucchini that should have something done with them 🙄. Maybe a tomato pie for lunch.
Have a wonderful Wednesday 😊

Nancy--so sorry to hear about your BIL. My condolences to you both.
Tasty--sounds like you have your hands full taking care of all that garden produce. I have to say that I'm somewhat jealous but since I'm cooking for one, it's better that I visit the farm stands! LOL!
I stopped at a small farm stand yesterday after getting my hair done. I was delighted to see that they have yellow tomatoes. Since I'm a little sensitive to the acid in the red ones, it was a welcome sight. I'm planning on a tomato sandwich for lunch today without worrying about taking benedryl! Yay!
This is supposed to be the worst day this week for the heat index. Ann--I saw the weather map this morning and it looks like you are worse than we are. The cities in the northeast are really getting hit. Boston was in the mid-80's overnight and NY city was in the 90's. They say that broke a new record for overnight temps. I don't like how all these records are falling this year.
I think today will be spent in front of the A/C with a good book. Hope your day is cool and comfortable.

Good morning all.
The board isn't working for me today. So hopefully, this posts.
Nancy, I am so sorry to hear about your DBIL. Terrible news.
Tasty, enjoy your last golf game today. Hard to believe it's almost Labor Day.
Birdy, glad you found a tomato you could enjoy.
I need to continue to work on my office catch up today. I finally got through the mail yesterday and then DH comes home with more yesterday. It's so hard to catch up when it's just he and I. He's working from home today so hopefully between the two of us we can get it caught up today.
Poppy was here last night so her parents could eat dinner with us. She slept the whole time. They claim she wakes up and screams most of the night. We've hardly seen her awake in 5 days. LOL They are coming back today for dinner.
I am thinking of making pizzas tonight.
Have a great day. Betsy

Have roast in oven for Chuck one he gave me from there 1/4 beef they had made from his BIL's beef. They like all hamburger and some roasts. Where is the steak??? They don't care for it. The chuck roast was bnls. and I like the bone in mine. So put small potatoes and onion w/little celery but did not have any carrots today. So then I sliced summer squash and zucchini w/little onion then mixed onion and chive cream cheese with water and then cheddar cheese to mix in, Will bake and put butter panko crumbs on top. I made two dishes so I have a little one. When I got groceries yesterday could not find my grocery list and still have not. I must of pulled it out with billfold or check book and never seen it drop. So forgot 4 items on my list.
I will go out and mow the yard today and it needs it. Have to wait for it to dry.
Nancy so sorry to hear of the loss of your BIL. Sympathy to the whole family. Sounds like maybe was a sudden one? Prayers that all will go smoothly with the loss.
Betsy hope Poppy starts to sleep a little during the night. that is tough on parents. My oldest DD had Colic and that was not fun at all. It really tests being a mother!!
Better get busy here. Marlene

Afternoon, friends! UGH³!!!! The heat index is up to 108°! It was just on the news that a guy with a gun being chased by the state police bailed out of his car and ran into a Haverhill, MA area which is now under lockdown. That means schools will keep the kids who walk home instead of dismissing them early because of the heat. The middle and high schools are affected... old, unventilated schools there...poor kids and adults! DH had an eye doctor appointment in Reading, MA, and, after a stop at the market, we are home and not going anywhere else today. Having Ricotta pie (from the freezer) and a tossed salad...using escarole instead of romaine. Nancy - My condolences over the death of your BIL. Hope you will be working in a cool building!! Tasty - I was just searching for ripe tomato recipes and came upon a tomato bread that uses fresh tomatoes. Looks interesting...at the very end of the link, it says that the "biga" does not have to be used. LINK I also found a small batch tomato relish that looks good especially if using tri-color peppers instead of green. LINK Have fun at golf today. Birdy - Enjoy your tomato sandwich!!! Betsy - If the sleep deprived parents have a clothes dryer in their apartment, here's a trick my neighbor used to use. Put the baby in an infant carrier or small "crib" on top of the dryer(she put a non-slip mat on top) and run it! The vibrations "rock" the baby to sleep. LINKMarlene - Your squash recipe sounds yummy! I usually seed my zucchini so it isn't as watery when cooked. Time to get a move on; I have cauliflower to blanch and escarole to clean for the salad. Stay cool! Waving!

Nancy, deepest condolences on the loss of your BIL.
Today is More Herbs, Less Salt Day, Chop Suey Day, and Lemon Juice Day.
With no call for work, I decided to take a much longer bike ride this morning--down to the beach. Since the winds have been blowing from the east and the smell isn't suppose to be "as bad", I thought I'd see for myself. Not sure who is reporting that because I found it to still be nasty and strong smelling. I parked my bike and decided to walk directly onto the sand, near the water, to see if dead sea life was still washing up--oh yes. Since the smell was starting to give me a headache I didn't stick around, but instead head back home. Once home I saw on the news that so far 115 manatees have died from the Red Tide. I'm telling ya, they need to do something sooner then later because it's gone on too long now. One of our two hospitals in town was on the news as well today and they said they are seeing tons of people coming in with breathing issues. Not good.
After I came home and showered, I ironed a bit, ran and emptied the dishwasher, and boiled some chicken breasts to use in a salad for tomorrow.
It was a lovely morning filled with sunshine, but it has clouded over and I am hearing thunder rumble out there (forecasters said it was going to be late afternoon before it started up, but guess they got it wrong). Currently it is 88*.
Betsy, my niece was colic and all she did was scream day and night. My brother and his wife run a business back in Michigan and just couldn't handle it. Emma came to Florida at just two weeks old and stayed between my parents home and my home for three months (her parents came down every other weekend to see her). We found two things that really were a help so she and we could get some sleep--the infant carrier on top of the dryer that Ann mentioned and just placing her in the infant carrier and driving around town. In both cases she fell asleep almost instantly and we were thankful for the few hours.
Tasty hope the weather decided to cooperate and let you have one last good day for golfing.
Birdy, sorry the heat and humidity have been so bad lately. Nice that you can just stay indoors and read. Glad you found a yellow tomato and you could enjoy for your lunch today.
Marlene, sounds like another wonderful meal Chuck and family will be enjoying--the squash sounds really different but good. Let us know how you like it. Hope you got the grass mowed and are now indoors cooling off.
Ann, hope the state police were able to get the guy quickly so the kids did not have to remain under lock down too long. I've had to remain in lock down with students on several occasions due to bank robberies near the different schools. Never fun, but having no AC in your terrible heatwave would only make the situation much worse.
DH is having to work four 10 hour shifts this week to make up for his day off yesterday Hopefully the pouring rain that is now falling will be done and over with by the time he leaves.
If the rain continues, I'll grill the flounder for our dinner on the lanai. I plan to make baked potato skins with a creamed spinach and bacon topping and will grill some peaches for our dessert.
Waving to all. Lori

Helen, I am just reading yesterday's post and see you had ac issues. Glad you got it up and running quickly.
Ann and Lori, thank you for the tip about the dryer. I think they have the stackable kind but I live down the street from them so they can bring her to do that.
I decided to make french dip tonight. I had to use up the meat.
I hope everyone is having a nice afternoon.

I got off early this afternoon so am enjoying a little quiet time at home. In a bit I'll go see what we want to do for dinner.
Nancy, I'm so sorry about your DH's brother. It's hard when those things happen so suddenly. Of course, it's hard when they linger on, too. Bottom line, there's no easy way to lose someone you love. Thoughts and prayers for your family ~

Hello, I have been reading today but did not have much to say so waited awhile to post. Nancy, I am so sorry about the loss in your family. Please know that you and yours are in my prayers.
Supper is in the Instant Pot. I bought a mix at Walmart that is called Tuscan Bean Soup. You are supposed to cook it in the crock pot for 8 hours. I did not put it on until about noon, so I am finishing it on the pressure cooking setting. I need to go over to the center in about and hour to play cards.
We got a nice shower this morning. A little thunder but no storms or lightening.
After lunch I went by the coffee shop and took brownies to them. I have not gotten anything else made but did go by the store and got things to make the almond joy earthquake cake.
This afternoon I took a bottle of wine to Helen. I saw it at the store and picked up 1 bottle for her, because she fell yesterday and cut her head. She was able to come back home with stitches, but I figured she would not be going anywhere any time soon.
Then at 3 I went over to the Care center to hear the flute concert by Carl, our friend who is here visiting. They might end up moving to Care eventually! I will be working at the resale shop tomorrow, all day, but I will see Marge then. She is coming by to shop.
Betsy, I hope the dryer trick works on Poppy. Good luck.
Lori, so sad to hear about all the death related to that awful red tide. Wish there was a cure for that problem.
Need to get busy in the kitchen and work on supper. Have a good evening !
