Another hot and humid day here. We have some running around to get done in town so will get that done early. We both have things we would like to get done outside later on but that will depend on just how humid it is. If there's any kind of breeze, it would make it much more bearable.
Lots of salad and veggies to use up, so we'll maybe just bbq some burgers or chicken and make it an easy meal tonight.
Hugs to Chris and Helen. I'm sure Betsy is busy in her new role as Grandma.
Have a terrific Tuesday 🙂

((Helen)) and ((Chris)) My prayers are with both of you. Karen--thanks for thinking about me yesterday. Your reply is probably still bouncing around in cyberspace! LOL!. About those two cursors . . . if getting in touch with the Geek Squad is a chore, you might check a few things first. On my laptop, which is a Toshiba, I have a key in the topmost row above the 4 key that toggles the touch pad on and off. I'm assuming there isn't a button right next to the touch pad on yours?. Some computers use a software control for it in their settings. Others use a Windows command. Do you have a manual with the computer? Or do a Google search for the model with "turn off touch pad." This is a nice summary of what to check for: www.pcworld.com/article/241048/laptop-computers/how-to-disable-your-laptop-touchpad.html We are under a heat advisory for today and tomorrow. The humidity is so thick that I can barely see across the valley and it feels like a warm blanket when I step out the door. They are so concerned about the weather at the State Fair that they have set up misting and cooling stations, are handing out free water, and have extended the senior citizens' free days into Wed. since the two official days will be so awfully hot. By Thursday, we're supposed to be in the low 70's. I'm not sure I want to think about the thunderstorms that will break this heat wave--hope they aren't too bad. My easy meal tonight will be a leftover meatloaf sandwich. I'm going to keep my cool today by getting a perm. A couple of hours in an air-conditioned space having my hair length shortened to "cool" again is looking pretty good right now. Have a good day, everyone. Birdy

I am all already to with Marge to go see Deloris. First we have to find where she is right now. We are going for breakfast and will pick a small plant for her so she has something to look at. Will also get few groceries while we are there also.
We are to have storms tonight so hope nothing serious as I would like to mow tomorrow. Will see how this all shakes out. The lawn is growing for sure.
Will catch up to all later in the day and hope it is a good day for everyone. My DS called last night and the twins had their first run in Cross Country Paige got first and Piper got 7th. They got medals all the way up to 15th. Their school was the smallest school there. Proud of these girls!!
Marlene
P.S. Betsy so happy that you are being a "great" Grandma!! Enjoy your time as they grow up to fast. Congrats to your DD on getting a scholarship also. What a nice surprise!! I am sure she will do great there. Won't be long and you will have moving day for her. Take care and give Poppy a little hug from me.

Good morning all.
Chris, I am so sorry to hear about the sudden loss of your brother. Devastating news. I am sending my deepest condolences to you and your loved ones.
Helen, a big hug to you.
I have been holding sweet Poppy as much as possible. Thank you for all the nice words. Especially the ones about her "young grandma" LOL. I don't think she looks anything like the redheads on our side but when you are taking her to the car and the sun shines on her hair it is light underneath. LOL I think she looks like her Mama but Sandy thinks she looks like my son. I am going to start getting back to reality today. I need to shop, cook and work.
We had a nice surprise over the weekend when UCLA notified dd she is getting a nice scholarship and will be spread out over the 4 years. We were not expecting it. With three weeks to go until move in day and kick off week the time is drawing near. Poppy has been a nice distraction but it's time to finish getting things ready for the move. She gets her roommate info, dorm info and move in date this week.
Not sure what dinner will be and I have not cooked for us in a week.
Have I mentioned we are madly in love with Poppy? LOL
Have a great day.
Betsy

Betsy--how proud you must be of your daughter! An unexpected scholarship is always a nice surprise, but from what I have seen from your posts she deserves it. How exciting--a new grandchild and a fledgling leaving the nest all at the same time. Enjoy!

Hello everyone and hugs for Helen and Chris.
Betsy, what a wonderful surprise for your family. A scholarship is a fabulous thing! Glad you are enjoying Poppy. As I have told many people, take lots of photos because they change their looks quickly and grow so fast!
Have a fun day Marlene. I'm sure Deloris will enjoy the visit and the gift. So nice of you both to make the trip to go see her.
Lucky for us the car just needed Freon, so we will run in to town during DH's lunch hour and pick it up.
We sure enjoyed visiting with friends last night. They liked the restaurant. Marge and I both got the chef salad and it was very good. Today is their anniversary so they are going out to the casino. We will meet them for lunch tomorrow at the Care Center. They are serving chicken fried steak.
Supper tonight will be pork cutlets, and sweet potato fries.
Nothing much going on around here today. I got everything done yesterday that was on my to do list. Everything except baking that is. I am sure they need more brownies at the coffee shop but I keep forgetting to buy chocolate. I may go by the store for that when I am in town.
Waving to all!

Afternoon, friends! It's beastly outside; very grateful for AC! Schools just let out; some kids are walking home, and you can see how wilted they are. It feels over 100° already. I used some more of that Kodiak mix and made the Applesauce/Cinnamon muffin recipe that was on the side of the box. Yum! They are not to sweet, and they are dense and moist. I sprinkled the tops with cinnamon sugar when I took them out of the oven. Tonight we are finishing the mac & cheese. I'll serve it with Aldi's Asian veggie burgers and string beans that I blanched a few days ago. Birdy - I didn't know that the touchpad could be turned off!!! We prefer to use a mouse with our laptops. I went into Settings, Devices and clicked on touchpad and turned it off! Amazing...little things give me big thrills!!!! Enjoy getting buffed and polished in a cool environment. I have to wait until next week to get my hair cut. Betsy - Big congrats to your daughter. That's a wonderful honor. She must be getting so excited! Have you heard about the outbreak of Legionnaire's disease (5 folks) at Hampton Beach? Experts have pinpointed the area around Ashworth Ave and H Street. They are looking into motel AC's. They are saying many more could be sick, but just haven't gone to the hospital. Sending good thoughts to Helen and Chris. Will try to check in later. Gotta do a few things around the house. Waving!!!

Good afternoon friends. Today is National Cherry Turnover Day.
Both DH and I had appointments with our cardiovascular doctor this morning. DH is doing fine, no concerns. However, I have been told that my condition has worsen and that I will need surgery in the next year or two. My doctor plans to monitor me now every 6 months instead of 12. Until then I am to carry on as I have been.
We stopped at Lucky's on the way home and picked up some fruit and when we walked in the door we were hungry so I made eggs and toast for our breakfast/lunch. Since then we've been on the phone taking care of things such as eye doctor appointments, getting new phone plans, changing the alarm system on the house, and DH just came back from getting an oil change on his truck.
Betsy, so happy and excited that you are enjoying being a Grandma--Poppy is one loved little girl! What a lovely honor for your college-bound DD to get a scholarship. From what you have written, she's a smart gal and has worked very hard for this. Congrats to her!
(((Helen))) and (((Chris)))
Our dinner will be baked chicken with lemon and herbs, a baked potato, and a salad.
Waving to all. Not much happening so I'll close wishing everyone a great day.

Hello again.
Ann, yes I have been following with the news about Legionnaire's Disease. My childhood friend lives close by that area and she has been updating me. I remember that outbreak when I was a kid. So scary.
Thank you for the nice comments about dd. We are so proud of her. She's a great kid. I have to tell a story about her. She wants to be a DR. so DDIL asked her if she would like to be in the delivery room with us. She accepted and was part of the full labor and delivery experience. She had said she wanted to be a neuro dr. But, she says at some point she will have to deliver a baby. LOL. She is actually thinking of obgyn now. She was so moved at the birth she was sobbing. And everytime she holds Poppy she sobs. Quite a bond Auntie Camille and Poppy will have.
Baby and her parents have asked to eat here. So, that will be fun. I will hold Poppy while they eat. Being a gran is a great way to lose weight. LOL.
I have to pick up dd at school. Can't wait for fall break. LOL

Thank you, friends, for once again being there for me. I knew you'd understand.
Betsy, your joy just leaps off the page! And congratulations to Camille for the scholarship!
I've had a few little things go wrong today. I was opening the sliding glass doors from the kitchen to the lanai and the handle just snapped right off. Great! and there's a showing tomorrow morning. Before I could take care of that I noticed it seemed hot and sure enough it was already 80 in here with a dire message on the thermostat to get service ASAP. All has been fixed temporarily but most importantly, the AC is working. It was in the 90's before a big rain chased the temp down to 78. What a really, really hot summer it has been.
I'm not very hungry yet so maybe a salad for supper? I'll rummage up something. Hope you all have a restful sleep tonite. Sweet dreams.

So nice to see good news today -- Betsy's DD getting a scholarship, Marlene's DGDs running so well, Helen's AC back on quickly, Tammy's dinner with friends.
Tasty and Birdy, sounds like it is as hot there as it is here in SC! We are right around the 90-degree mark, so not really out of the ordinary for this time of year. Those opening football games on Saturday are going to be scorchers. 😎 I'm very happy to cheer my teams on from the comfort of the sofa in an air-conditioned house!
Ann, the applesauce muffins sound great. Wonder if I could find Kodiak mix around here? I'll have to look around.
Lori, sorry to hear that your news from the doctor was not as good as your DH's. We'll be praying for you!
DH picked up Publix fried chicken for our dinner and that will make a couple other meals as well. I packed some for my lunch tomorrow. Have a nice evening, everyone ~

As is not unusual around here, supper plans changed! I was checking the veggies in the garden and peppers really needed picking. So I took a couple of nice sized red peppers and stuffed them with a mix of ground beef, onions, rice, tomatoes, mushrooms and Italian herbs. Served with green beans, I only made the smallest dent in the garden produce 🙄 but they were good.
