Good morning friends.
Betsy, Loved the picture of you, your DS and Poppy. I was going to ask you what color hair does she have but I can clearly see it's dark and lots of it :) . You both look so happy. Sending DDIL get well wishes too.
Last night DH and I ate out. For appetizers he had pasta fagioli and I had fried calamari. For dinner he had veal saltimbocca and I had veal Sorrento. Both so good!
Picked up some more baby items yesterday for both baby showers that I have next month. Both baby girls are due on my wedding anniversary 10/22.
Going food shopping today so I'll decide on dinner while I'm there.
Enjoy your day.
Nancy

Oh, it's humid this morning. Thank goodness the temperature is only in the 70s.
We are golfing in an 'end of summer' event this afternoon and supper is included. Usually burgers and hot dogs, with ice cream to follow. With different people in the kitchen this year, I don't know if it will stay the same. Anyway, I won't be cooking tonight.
I did however make a big, and I mean big, pan of ratatouille to use some of the veggies that seem to be multiplying in the fridge. When it has cooled, I will package most of it for the freezer. But that is about it for me today. Hope you have a great day!

Good morning, all. Betsy--lovely picture and an impressive head of hair on that lovely baby! Congratulations.
Tasty--ratatouille is like velcro for veggies! I see lots of it showing up this winter--nice. Hope your end of summer event turns out well. It's dark and gloomy here right now but no rain. It's good that you're getting your golf in before it gets so much hotter and humid later in the week. Enjoy!
I haven't any idea of what to make for my supper tonight. I've been getting lazy about cooking for myself. It's time I make a real meal with some leftovers. I think I will head out after lunch for some more corn and veggies and see what develops.
Have a good day, all.
Birdy

Doris that was the conversation when my DS came down for the auction. That has been on the parents mind all the time. Usually DDIL would take them where they were going to start to run and know how long to time for them to get back to her. It is a worry and on our minds all the time. They loved Colorado and their trip. the last minute Dr. told Piper she could run a little and take it easy as she had another stress break. Then she tumbled out there and got chin scraped up. Once home they are so busy now school started and they have a full tough schedule this year. Taking 2 extra classes for medical also. they have their goals set and hope they can do it all. They are juniors this year. Their Mother said they needed an extra year at home before starting kindergarten and I think it really helped them. They have adult conversations with you when chatting. I am so proud of them and all my grandchildren. Boys are not in scene at all, not interested they are looking at their futures.
Went to church and did not have breakfast so came home and fixed 1/2 of a ribeye with leftover corn casserole and tomato. Will have the other 1/2 ribeye for supper.
Nothing much going on today had a sprinkle of rain today. So will turn on tv and watch whatever?? Might be a good day for a nap.

Good afternoon friends. Today is National Cherry Popsicle Day.
I wasn't able to get back on here last evening thanks to a terrible strong storm that knocked out everything. The dangerous lightning and thunder began around 4PM and just as we were sitting down to eat around 5PM, we lost everything. The storm continued to dump heavy rains on us to around 9 last night and DH said he'd set the computer back up this morning. Weather forecasters say we are in line for more of the same later this afternoon--I can already see it building up.
Betsy, Poppy is so adorable and that lovely head of hair is something else-what a beautiful, sweet thing she is! I have to agree, you look so young to be a grandma, but I can see the the love for little Poppy in your eyes (son's too). Hope your DDIL is doing better and the family will soon be able to go home.
Finished some ironing earlier and then I'm now slowly getting dinner organized. In between painting the hallway trim, DH put baby back ribs on the smoker. With it I'm making some veggie skewers (mushrooms and zucchini) that I have a roasted red pepper dip I made to serve with it and I'm going to make some roasted ranch potatoes too.
Waving to all. Lori

Sounds like a nice day for most of us. Sunny and warm again today -- we got spoiled by a few cool mornings!
DH & I had a brunch buffet for lunch and then tonight we have an ice cream social at church. I'm taking the Mexican Chocolate ice cream I made up last night and will churn in a bit. It looks good but I realized why I haven't made it in so long -- takes a lot of time and patience, standing at the stove, stirring gently while the custard cooks slowly. Hopefully it will be worth the effort. I'm also taking a pound cake that was a gift to DH from a student's family -- that was completely unexpected! It's a vanilla cake with cream cheese frosting and we have already eaten too much of it by ourselves, so I am carrying it along to have with ice cream tonight.

Afternoon, friends! It's nice out today, but the heat and humidity is creeping up. Nothing much happening today...did a few chores and read the papers. Outside is still pretty moist so I only had to water the pots. Last night's dinner was a home run; DH has that recipe nailed. Love the Aldi frozen kale & quinoa, too. Tonight we are having cheeseburger waffles and a succotash salad. I used a new whole grain mix from Kodiak brands for pancakes and the recipe for Zucchini-Cornmeal Pancakes from TOH and made the batter for waffles. Since I used the mix, I omitted the baking powder & sugar and used the salt to "drain" the shredded zucchini (also squeezed it in a kitchen towel). Instead of 8 pancakes, I made 4 waffles using 1/2 cup batter for each. Going to rewarm them and top them with Aldi's Hatch chili burgers with Swiss cheese. Betsy - So nice to see the happy picture; thanks!!! Lori - Wow! I would be shaking in my boots over those storms! Your dinner sounds delicious! It seems that DH has given up on grilling; I'll have to get better at it because I love grilled food. Tasty - I love ratatouille! Sometimes, I process what I have leftover into a pasta sauce using canned San Marzano tomatoes. That freezes well. I don't remember if I asked already...did you ever make caponata? It's a sweet/sour "relish" made from ratatouille...add raisins, capers, olives, a tad of brown sugar and red wine vinegar for the sweet & sour (balanced) taste. Tammy - I really like Calico beans, but since it's such a big batch, I haven't made them in a while. There were three peach upside-down cake recipes in our Sunday paper today. I thought of you!!! Nancy - Your dinner out...yum!!! I have never made veal Sorrento, but I found a recipe that looks easy and delicious. I have a big sage plant, and I have made Saltimbocca a few times. Chris - Glad you had a nice "bike" day! Time to see to mom and Miss Duchess (She is curled up in our sun parlor closet; need to prod her awake and get her upstairs!) Have a wonderful evening! Waving!

Good evening friends. Right after I posted yesterday I got the call that my brother passed away unexpectedly. Was a massive heart attack. They could not revive him. We are all so in shock. Please pray for me and my family. I just can not rap my head around it. He was just too young. 68!

Chris, I am so sorry over your sad news. We will keep you in our prayers.
Betsy, thank for sharing a photo of the lovely Poppy! Love to see lots of hair on newborns heads, and she has more than her share, so pretty. It's nice to see you and Ds too.
I have not checked the weather in a couple days, but I do remember that we have a 40% of rain Monday and Tuesday, but about an hour ago a storm blew through. We lost tv for a short while but that's all. It was short lived, and now the sun is out again.
I brought home empty pans, so I am happy. Both of my items were very good tasting. No supper plans yet. We have friends from Arizona that have spent the last few months traveling in the rv, and they are in town. I thought we might go out with them but it did not work out so we will be going out to the Huddle House tomorrow evening.
Ann, this recipe for the beans calls for 1 lb ground beef and a total of 60 oz of beans(assorted kinds). I doubled the recipe, but I'm sure it would freeze well. I added a dash of bbq sauce and an extra splash of cider vinegar.
Have a nice evening, and hugs to you Chris.
