Good morning friends.
I was awake early this morning. Looks like a nice summer head cold here! Argh!
Has been a really busy couple of weeks for me. I am hoping after this next week that things will calm down. We have decided to do respite care for a friend of ours. She has had this young man since he was 9 and he turns 30 today! She lost her respite person of 9 years and we have known this young man since 9 and I had him in school when I taught Special Ed so we know him well. We will have him one week end a month. He loves to play chess with my DH. When ever he has been here in the past he always asks Dan to play a game. His first question when he came last night was " Dan can we play chess?" LOL
We have been having a lot of rain the last two days.
I see we have one baby here and waiting on the next! Congrats Elza!
Son and I will be starting work on the pork butts for the pulled pork competition tomorrow. 30 pounds to do the rub on and start smoking tomorrow night. We will smoke through the night and nap in between. LOL
Hope you all have a great day. Chris (Has had plenty of HC's to see her through)

Congrats Elza! Hope mother and daughter are doing well. Your niece certainly will have her hands full for a while!
How nice of you to help your friend Chris, as if you are not busy enough! "If you need something done, ask a busy person" so very true. Take care of yourself!
No golf for me yesterday. Went grocery shopping on the mainland instead - bigger stores with more selections than the stores here can justify. One of the things I came home with was a box of plum tomatoes. 25lb for less than $8 . A good buy for our Festival of Trees . So I spent a chunk of timing making pizza sauce. Will do something with the rest today while hubby is golfing!
I'll come back later when I've thought about supper! Have a super Saturday 😊

Chris how nice of you to help a friend. You are a busy gal. Hope things settle down at work for you so you can "enjoy" the job you are doing. Good luck on the pork cook-off. Sounds like fun.
Elza congratulations on the baby. The mother will be a busy Mom with two to take care of.
Tasty the pizza sauce sounded good. Nice to get a bargain on them also.
I am already to go into the sale of Dad's farm. My DS will meet me there. He was still in Norfolk at 9:30 last night so will come down today. When he wants off early it never happens. I hope the sale goes well.
Have a great Day and week-end.

Good morning friends.
Chris, Good luck at the competition.
Elza, Congrats on the arrival of your new great niece! Next is Poppy's turn.
Not sure what I'm making or ordering tonight. DH did work for a guy who owns a Chinese restaurant near us so we might try it.
Rain in the forecast for today.
Enjoy your day.

Good morning.
Elza, congratulations! What a lovely name. Enjoy her.
No cooking for me today although I am going to bake later. I have some cleaning to do but otherwise it's a day to relax.
Chris, hope you feel better. Summer colds are terrible.
Wishing everyone a great day.

Good morning, all.
Chris--hmmmm. Let's see . . . a new job, a generous offer of respite care for the weekend, pulled-pork competition, and a summer cold! Girl, you are wearing me out just reading your post! I agree--when you want something done, just ask a busy person. Enjoy your weekend and try to take some time for yourself soon to rest and get rid of that cold. I had a friend who swore he got rid of a cold overnight while staying at a hunting camp with friends. It had something to do with several large applications of ginger schnapps (or brandy) and a solid night's sleep. I'm not sure if he was cured or just too happy to notice!
A new great-niece--and someone is still waiting for another baby! Congratulations on the arrival of Verity--a lovely name. Looks like her mom is definitely going to be busy for a while!
The weather is getting better but we aren't getting the nice weekend they had promised a couple of days ago. A cold front is trying to come through but hasn't quite made it yet. Still showers in the area today. At least it is cooler and not so nasty humid.
Usually August is the part of the summer where I would love to take long drives into the mountains because the air would be so clear you could see for miles. Not this year! The humidity has been really heavy--really, really heavy with dewpoints in the tropical range--like 75. That's really unusual for this far north. Nothing seems to be normal this year! The NY State Fair starts Tuesday. Used to be that I would go and spend the day walking around. At this stage of my life, I'm not even tempted. LOL!
Sorry to start Saturday morning with a downer, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to check your bank accounts and other financial activity for anything unusual. I just got a warning from the Kim Komando newsletter that I get that there has been an attempted major breach recently against banks. Not the customers (yet) but the employees. If an employee clicks on an attachment using their business computer, it lets the intruder into the bank's computer system where they can get all of the customers' information.
They don't know yet if anyone has been compromised but it's a good idea to check your records just to be safe. They know for sure that it has been attempted against major banking systems like Bank of America, Citibank, Citizens Bank, Lloyds Bank, Standard Bank and many others. I just recently got a notice from BofA that they were changing my credit card because it had been used at a possibly compromised business. I don't know if it's part of this or not. I don't do any other banking with them besides the cards.
On that note . . . have a good day, everyone. :)

Hello ! I am writing in PINK to celebrate the arrival of Verity and soon arrival of Poppy.
We just got home a few moments ago. It was a lazy morning, then I got ready and we stopped by the bank, got some lunch, went to the grocery store and then by the small Sears appliance store in town and got a mini fridge to put out in the storage shed. DH wanted a spot for him to keep lots of fruits.
Supper tonight will be ham steak, baked sweet potatoes, and some other veg. It will probably be a late supper since we had a large lunch. Actually my lunch was a bowl of creamy chicken vegetable soup and a small Caesar salad, so not too big but filling. DH had grilled shrimp.
I browsed through the gift shop attached to the restaurant and bought a 1,000 piece puzzle. It is a collage of games and toys from the 50's. When I am finished I will give it to my bff in Houston to work.
Good luck in the competition Chris!
Also good luck wishes for you Marlene, and the sale. Enjoy the visit from DS.
Thanks for the heads up, Birdy. We seem to bank at smaller local places, so hopefully we are safe, but DH checks our accounts pretty much daily.
I am going to wash sheets and bedding today, and will try to make as much ahead as possible for tomorrow's pot luck. I am making deviled eggs, and an éclair cake.
All right, I will sign off now and go back to sorting my puzzle. Have a nice day!

Taking a quick break friends. Today is National Soft Ice Cream Day.
Elza, congrats on the newest addition to the family. Beautiful and so different is the name--how do your pronounce the first name? Praying Mom and baby are doing well and yes, she's going to have her hands full with two little ones.
A busy day. Watered plants on the lanai early then cut up a watermelon. Make a pot of Rachael Ray's Spaghetti and Meatball "Stoup" and the meat mixture for a penne dish we'll have maybe on Monday.
Had planned to make a few other meals, but I've been playing Tim the Tool Man along side DH this afternoon. We have had basic cable tv for ages and DH is upset how they keep jacking up the price every time you turn around. He finally said, "enough is enough, we're cutting the cable." He researched it and found an antenna that will go out about 100 miles and ordered it. Well, it arrived today and he wanted to set it up. Naturally what was suppose to be simple and a one man job, needed a woman! LOL! It's up and running, beautiful and clear; we now have 68 channels. Of course I will miss some of my favorites like CNN, Food Network, Weather Channel, and Hallmark, but I'll survive.
The heat is chocking today. Currently 94* with a feel like of 105*.
Dinner tonight will be Apricot Chicken, Summer Squash Casserole with Nuts (both from Allrecipes), and Roasted Green Beans with Warm Vinaigrette (The Chew). Need to go now and get it started. Waving to all.

Lori, it's pronounced like the word "very" but with an added syllable. Emphasis on the first syllable. Hope that helps. Everybody is doing fine. Hoping to hear of Poppy's arrival soon!
I slept late this morning and enjoyed a leisurely breakfast of coffee and tea brack. DS brought me some Vietnamese instant coffee and it is delicious -- so much better than American instant! It has sugar in it, and a hint of chocolate flavor. DH had to leave earlier as it is Freshman Move-in Day at the university where he teaches, and after that he stayed to work in his office a bit. We all met later on at the movies to see the latest Mission Impossible -- it was action-packed for sure! Fun and didn't require too much thinking.
Now I'm getting some chores done here and I think we may just pull out leftovers for dinner.

G'day, friends! It's been rainy and oppressively hot and humid these past two days. Didn't get on yesterday, and I'm late today. We were attending a 50th wedding anniversary of our friends. Besides getting "lost" three times, we managed OK. I have resisted getting a "smart" phone, but I'm getting closer to getting one. At one point, DH stopped and asked a policeman directions, and DH presented him with a paper map...he was very amused; we not so much!!!! LOL It was good to see old friends, the food was delicious, and we were on our way back to the hotel by 8:30...a plus. I had "reverse" directions and got us back to the hotel with only one hitch. I saw the "mistake" right away, but had to convince DH to turn around!!! We stayed at a Courtyard Marriott; it was very quiet and comfortable. Tonight we are having roast lamb, Greek roasted potatoes w/ feta, and a spinach salad. Mom's cat was NOT pleased to have my brother invading her territory! She hid most of the time, and the last time she scurried out of his way, she dived under the bathroom sink knocking stuff out of her way. Mom shut the sink door, and she was "trapped" until an hour ago. She's now down with us, but she's still quite miffed at us so she is in hiding. Birdy - Thanks for the heads up on the financial stuff. We use a small community bank, but will be on the lookout. Elza - What a pretty name...Verity! Betsy - Hope for your DDIL that Poppy makes herself known soon!!! Tammy - Your are ambitious with that puzzle! Chris - Hope you are feeling better today. Kind of you to help with that young man. Good luck with the smoke-off. Waving to all...time to tend to dinner.

Ann--laughing at the "paper" map story. Honestly, though, I use my smart phone all the time for live weather reports, checking my email, and Google maps directions. Sometimes I even make phone calls on it!
Google maps can sometimes do some crazy things but it works much better than the navigation I have in my car which is based on TomTom. that one has tried to take me down some seasonal roads that were just two ruts! I just have to be sure that the phone is in a spot where it doesn't seem like I'm looking at it while driving--I don't want a ticket! And, as a birder, I use the birding apps all the time--haven't looked up anything in my books in a long time. If anyone told me 10 years ago that I'd be doing this, I would have told them they were crazy.
Poor kitty cat--heaping insult on top of injury.
From what I understand about this banking situation, it isn't just the large banks that were targeted. There were 2,700 domains approached by this hack--that's a lot and even small, local banks are online for email and other business. So it pays to stay alert. These creeps are depending on hitting places that might think they are off the radar and get careless, I think.
Gloomy all day but no rain. Hopefully tomorrow is going to be a nice day--I have to mow the lawn.
Talk to you later.

Birdy, I appreciate the heads-up too. We have to watch all the time for suspicious emails, and there is a "report phishing" function in our email program to notify IT/Security.
I would add, never put your card into an ATM without checking it. Tug on the area where the card is entered to make sure it's not a skimmer that's placed over the slot to record information. Look for pinholes (for cameras) and sticky areas where something may have been stuck on with tape. Anything that's loose or not firmly attached could have been added onto the ATM to steal customer info.

Thanks for bringing that up. The only ATM I use is at my bank and the way it is set up, it would be pretty hard for someone to add a skimmer. I do check, though.
There are times when getting Kim Komando's emails make me feel paranoid, but it has made me more aware of what's going on around me. I've always been a little skeptical of most uninvited emails anyway. I have a friend who just loves to email me copies of web pages, etc. without explanation. I've tried to tell her that I won't open emails like that unless I'm sure they are secure. I think she's been a little miffed with me, but on the other hand I haven't (knock on wood) been hacked, either. I probably shouldn't brag--I'm probably living on borrowed time. LOL!
