Hello to all.
Hope Nancy is sleeping in and having a lovely day.
It is super hot here in Ca. We were going to grill but with the Santa Ana winds and high heat no can do. I am going to make homemade chicken Fil A., bake loaded fries and salad. DD and I are making an apple pie.
Have a great day all.

Thanks Betsy for starting us off today. I just got home from Church and had a bowl of Tomato soup and piece of cake for dinner. I am invited to Mark's for supper tonight. He is smoking country style ribs and know they will be wonderful. I have not used my smoker but will sure use it next year now that I have a patio. There is room for grill and smoker both.
Was wanting to mow the grass but it sure needs to warm up and sun to shine to be able to do that. We got 1 1/4" of rain again so things are soggy wet.
Hope everyone has a good day today and gets rested up to be ready for another week.

Good afternoon. I was here about 6 AM but no one around. 37 this morning but sunny. It has warmed up in the sun but a real cold breeze blowing. I got up a 3 AM to put the heat on in the greenhouse and stayed up until about 8 then went and took a little nap. Before I went for a nap I got the pita bread baked. I made the dough last night. Also got the brine made for the beef to make corned beef and that is now in the refrigerator for about 10 days. Made garlic oil to put on the bagel chips that I plan on making maybe today. Also got pimento cheese made after my nap. Wet to get the pimento out of the refrigerator and they looked like a science experiment so had to use some roasted red peppers I had made but it isn't too bad but not as good as the pimentos would have been.
Everything is now packed and in the freezer. Cheddar Bay Biscuits just came out of the oven. They will hit the freezer as soon they have cooled.
I never did get outside to do anything yesterday so when I get off here I need to get a move on. I need to get the hoses drained since it is suppose to be 32 tonight. I will also pick down what few tomatoes that are left in the garden. Would like to also get started on the bird feeding station for this winter.
I would like to go to town and pick the tomatoes down there and pick up a few groceries but the road is closed and would have to wait for a police escort to go the last mile into town and the same thing coming home. Today is the big marathon here. I will wait and go about 4 when the road should be open.
No cooking tonight. DS is doing dinner tonight so have no idea what I will be eating. Just hope I can stay away and not end up with my face in my plate at dinner.
Betsy, sorry you are having a heat wave again. Especially since your new air conditioner isn't installed yet.
Marlene, enjoy your dinner with Mark tonight. Hope it dries off so you can mow.
Was surprised when Nancy wasn't here this morning. Hope all is well with her.
Have a great day.
Bet

Good afternoon, y'all! It is still hot here but not as bad as it has been. Upper 80s instead of mid-90s. I keep telling myself, soon it will be cold and we'll complain about that too. Marlene, we could use some of your rain. It's been so dry that our grass isn't growing much. Bet, you are one busy lady! I bet your pita bread is good. We have a restaurant here where they make their own hummus and pita bread and it is delicious. Betsy, you are cooking some good stuff. Homemade apple pie is the best. I would love to know how you do the homemade Chick-Fil-A? We had Mexican for lunch and now it's quiet time. (zzz) DH is napping and I'm getting laundry done while taking a little time to sit down and chill. It was a busy day yesterday as my sisters and I worked all day at Mama's. We are making progress with getting things cleaned out and boxed up and of course it's therapy for all of us just to have the time together. Waving to everybody ~

I thought I was posting on here but I guess I must be half asleep as I see I posted on "What's on your menu this week". I hope everyone is having a good day. Sending hugs to all that might want one or need one. I hope Chris had a good time and will arrive home safe. It might take her awhile to unload her car after all her shopping --lol. Waving a big hello from Iowa to all.

Hi ! It is sunny but cool. I think we have about the same weather as Bet.
Today we went to church then stopped by a family style restaurant for lunch. I had the fried chicken and it was delicious! As good as any I have had in the deep south!
If we need any supper we have some leftovers. I plan on watching Guy's grocery games at 7, since it is a repeat of last Sunday's show which I missed. The show at 8 is brand new.
Chris, we have not been to the Bennington monument but we will before we leave here. DH found more covered bridges so we are going on that day trip one day. Probably not tomorrow since I have a hair appt at 4. DH is going to try and find a barber shop and get his hair cut too. Can't wait to hear all about your weekend!
After lunch we stopped by Walmart. I needed a few grocery items and DH wanted a anew space heater, which we have been running during the nights. The one we have in the living area rattles so it may be on it's last legs. We don't want to wait to buy a new one because we have done that in the past and have found the stores all sold out.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Hello friends.
Betsy, Thank you for starting us off.
Last night DH was complaining of abdominal pains so I took him to the E.R. It turns out he had appendicitis. Got home after midnight and went back to the hospital at 7:30 this morning. They operated on him around 9 am. His appendix was inflamed but not perforated. Had it been perforated he would be in the hospital for several days. After he got back to his room and settled I left so he could rest.
Quickly went food shopping and getting ready to go back and see him.
Must run.

Nancy so glad your DH got to the ER in time to help him. They say it is terrible when they burst so glad that did not happen. Wishing him well.
I did get the yard mowed and it is muddy out there too. But so glad it is done for few days. Can't believe how green the grass is and its the end of month. It has always been dry and brown sometimes. When you walk on it would crackle under foot. Not this year.
Going to have a lemonade and sit and rest awhile.

Good afternoon, friends! It's a beautiful fall day. I took a little nap since I was up at the same time as Bet this morning! I finished up pickling the piccalilli vegetables; I did not cook it this time. We like it both ways. Last night's dinner was definitely a keeper. So glad there are leftovers! Nancy - Wow! I didn't ever imagine that appendicitis "happened" so quickly. I guess I thought one "suffered" pain for a while before needing surgery. So glad DH is on the mend! Prayers and hugs to you all. Bet - I use a dry rub to corn my beef and it takes 5-7 days. [The salt rub makes it's own liquid.] Will you send me your recipe when you have time...no rush!? Brisket is ridiculously expensive these days. Same as all the other "poor man's cuts". I guess demand has risen due to cooking shows so that drives up the prices. I have some King Arthur Irish-Style flour to use up; I think I'll make a batch of the "Wonderful English Muffins" this week. I'm watching Ciao Italia on PBS; Marianne Esposito is making fresh sausage. I've made seafood sausage, but now I want to try pork...! We are spoiled, though...we have a small market that sells homemade sausages of many varieties so I usually go there. Marlene - Our grass and most everything that hasn't been hand watered is "toast". Tammy - I like watching Guy's Grocery games! He sure gives them a few curve balls!!! Least the use "normal" ingredients!!! Love those space heaters...we have one in our bathroom, and we use it before turning on the main heat in the whole house. Elza - Nice to read you and sisters are together in dealing with your Mom's "stuff"; I will have to do that alone (with DH); my surviving brother will be of little help. I swear it will take me several years! Betsy - Stay cool! I love this time of year in NE. I'm happy when I have to burrow under covers!!!!! We are having the rest of the black bean soup tonight...nice night for it...it's supposed to be the coldest since spring. Have to think about getting my plants moved inside soon. Have a wonderful evening. Waving to all!

Oh my, Nancy. Glad to hear the surgery went well. After we found out that DGD's appendix was the problem all along, we were relived that it had not burst. I've heard that can be very bad. Prayers for you all!

Nancy, hope your hubby has a speedy recovery. Glad you got him to the ER when you did.
No cooking for me tonight - rehearsal dinner is at an Italian restaurant we often frequent with the kids. The rehearsal itself went fine - think all the bugs have been ironed out. Tomorrow will tell.
Must go, shower and change or I'll never be ready!
