Good morning friends. Today is National Vanilla Milkshake Day.
As early as it is, a milkshake sounds good right about now. Not even 6AM, and it's 80* and super muggy outside. We'll be breaking the 100+ feel-like temperature once again later (yesterday it was 107*). Glad I have plenty to do inside today.
Called Habitat for Humanity and they'll gladly take my vertical blinds, so when DH comes home from work we'll load them into his truck and take them over.
Dinner tonight will be grilled flounder, corn on the cob, and a pasta salad.
Waving to all and wishing you a wonderful day.
Lori

Thanks for starting us today Lori. I'm sure someone will be very happy to get you blinds. We have a habitat store locally and the selection of stuff is amazing. When we renovated our last house, a lovely old century home, we found all sorts of things fitting the age of the house, especially the old door handles 😊 .
I am hoping to spend the morning working outside. The weather has cooled somewhat and we'll be in the 70s. Then as it's Wednesday friends and I will golf and then have supper. No cooking 😊.
Have a wonderful Wednesday.

We have a Habitat for Humanity Re-Store here, too. I've donated to them in the past--a really good place to shop but also a group where I know the money will go to good use in the community. Chris--and anyone else interested--here is an authentic recipe for spiedies very much like you will find in Binghamton. There are other recipes out there but this one is the closest to the original. www.allrecipes.com/recipe/145182/new-york-spiedies/ I don't know if they show up in other states, but the original spiedies are a popular item at the NY State Fair. The story is that a group of Italian immigrant families in the 1900's who came from the same area of Italy brought this regional recipe with them. You can buy pre-marinated meat all over the Binghamton area to grill at home and even a few places here even though we are 90 miles away. They are pretty popular. Read the comments below the recipe--there are always some people who claim that they aren't authentic--but one thing is that they are always served on Italian bread, not French bread (heaven forbid! LOL!) The big story is that Andrew Zimmern is in town for a few days filming for a couple episodes at local restaurants. He has this new series on the Travel Channel with highlights unique foods from all over. One of the places he is revisiting is Chesterfield's Restaurant in my part of town--he included it in his show about following the Erie Canal last year and apparently liked it enough to come back. The other is a tiny BBQ place that is only a few years old but has gotten really popular. For once, it's a place that doesn't serve Italian food. Not that I'm against it--we have fabulous Italian-American food here--but it's nice to see something else for a change! LOL! I've got to get moving--my coffee cup is empty. Have a good day. Birdy

Tasty, hope the day stays cool for you.
Ny spiedies sound great. I love Italian bread. Yum.
I need to go to Trader Joe's today. Maybe Aldi's, too. My dd is having lunch with her hs friends. They really miss seeing one another every day. Youngest dd will shop with me.

Good morning everyone ~ Once again "Thank you" for sharing our loss all the prayers meant a lot to me. We had rain in the morning after having 4" night before and it finally quit at 10:00. It was not muddy at cemetery as we did not all drive in there and they had carpet and chairs around the grave site. The lid to vault was different at no charge. I picked out pink roses they were halfway across the top and her name and birth date and day of passing. It looked nice. The flowers I picked for casket were pink roses also. There were not many there, like FIL and with weather being nasty. We have enough maid Rites to have them for fellowship and left over desserts. I had Pastor Kathy Brown as she served our church last year from March until November. She had taken communion to Mom with deacons so knew a little about her. She had a wonderful service. The kids all left yesterday, the Texans went to see the family in Omaha. My son and DDIL had to get to doctor as my DS has bad allergies and had a Dr. appt. at 4:30. He had a temp so got a shot, exray, inhaler and went home to bed. He had 3 hrs. of sleep in two days. So he was miserable. My DD from Wausa had to get back to work as she had a big pile of bills to get through at her work. They sell farm seed now and fertilizer and take grain in also she is a busy gal.
I will start on Thank you today and getting them done. I need to go to lawyer and sign some papers for Probate for MIL today. Told Marge I thought we should go for Nacho's in the little German town close to us. Will see how the day goes.
Looks like rain again today. Have a great day.

Good morning friends.
Lori, That's great that habitat can take the blinds. Your dinner sounds good. When I was little, my mother and I would shop on the avenue and on the way home stop at her friends shop to split a black and white milkshake.
Tasty, Enjoy the cooler temps. It will be in the 80's here.
Birdy, Thanks for the recipe and how exciting that Andrew Zimmern is in town.
Marlene, The flowers sound so pretty. Try to rest up and enjoy your nachos.
Chris, Looks like we're having the same weather.
Betsy, Enjoy your shopping at TJ's. I need to get there myself.
Oldest DD hasn't been feeling well and now says her throat really hurts. I called the dr. so she has an appointment today. I hope it's not strep or tonsillitis.
Youngest DD slept at her friends house.
We stayed late at the pool yesterday so I didn't make the pork tenderloin. Instead we had ribs, baked potatoes and Philip's crab cakes. I'll make the tenderloin tonight.
Yesterday, after I dropped oldest DD off at work, I headed back home on the main road in town. I looked in my review mirror and did a double take. The Oscar Mayer Weiner Mobile was right behind me! If you've never seen it you can google it. It's HUGE! Never thought I would wake up and see that lol.
Enjoy your day.
Nancy

Morning, everyone! It's another banner day here. Sorry I missed visiting yesterday...got busy with "stuff". Nancy - Never in my wildest dreams would I expect to see the Oscar Mayer Weiner Mobile! So cool...! Hope DD feels better soonest. Birdy - I've had spiedes once! Very yummy. TOH has a recipe, but I'm pretty sure I used a recipe from the Food Network. You've reminded me to try them again...Your dinner out sounds so delicious. Steak with bleu cheese sauce...perfect!!! Marlene - The service for your MIL sounds wonderful. German nachos??? LOL Lori - I'm glad that you have a "buffed and polished" home; will never see that here...DH is just too much of a packrat, and, he sees no reason to redecorate! The was just an article in my Yankee Magazine email today about the difference between a frappe, milkshake, and cabinet! I used to buy a vanilla Fribble from Friendly's Ice Cream to have during my commute home from college every once in a while...yum. Yesterday, DH requested more of the Lemon & Herb bean salad I made a month ago. This time I added corn and more diced veggies. I also added smoked paprika...that is a "winner" addition. I just bought some St. Louis ribs at BJ's today because I had a -$5 coupon. Will cook them this weekend. I'm going to make Giardia's "Checca" Pasta salad to go with them. The sauce for that has cherry tomatoes, garlic, scallions, basil & parsley, and marinated fresh mozzarella all processed together. I started using the marinated fresh mozzarella instead of just the plain fresh and like it better. I don't use all of the oil, though. Tonight we are having a Blakes Chicken pie with spiralized butternut and turnip. Will check in later! Waving!

Just got back from the Dr. for oldest DD. She has a virus. If she gets a fever again tomorrow and Friday, she can start taking an antibiotic. But for now she said to try and fight it.

With all the comments about fribbles I had to look them up to see what was so special. The original was made with ice milk. In the 90's they changed to soft serve ice cream. Now they have changed again. The are now made with hard ice cream like a regular milk shake. So what is so special?

Today has been cloudy, gray and raining all day (almost). Sometimes heavy rain, but luckily not often. Pink seems like a good color for this kind of day.
Nancy, sorry that DD is ill. Not a good way to start summer vaca! Hope she gets to feeling better quickly. How neat to be right next to the weiner mobile!
I am going over to play cards at 6. I took the easy way out and picked up Mexican food for supper. I baked all day after dropping off the dog at the groomers. DH had to take off early because he got in his 40 hours. I had him take me by the church to deliver the food, pick up the dog. Then he took by the Mexican restaurant where my Livingston Ladies group was meeting from 4 until 7. I popped in and said hello then got our food and we came home.
Tomorrow is my hair cut appointment so I will be gone most all day. There is still a 70% chance of rain, yuck!
Waving to everyone! Hope it's a great evening.

I started the Thank you notes but flipped my chair and got comfy and fell asleep!! So did not go to town or out to eat. Just now went through Moms clothes and sorted so will get some boxes and take to Goodwill hopefully soon. She has lots of nice clothes but some got rough treatment in the homes laundry. They don't care and don't care how they hang them up. Anyway I guess I was more tired than I thought. Red slept all morning and went out couple hours and now he has been asleep too. This company was hard on us I guess!! We enjoyed having them.
We keep getting these rain showers. I was going to start to mow house yard but got driven back into house. Will try tomorrow again.
Have a good night everyone.
Marlene
