Hubby and I have just got back from a few short days in Niagara on the Lake to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. In some ways it feels like we have been married 'forever' and in others it seems like it was just yesterday. Where oh where did fifty years go?
NOTL is a lovely little town, full of history, and everything in walking distance. Our hotel was overlooking the lake and just gorgeous. The sunrise yesterday morning was glorious.
Hubby parked the car as we arrived and after that we walked everywhere. The historic area is very small but lots of little stores and restaurants and coffee shops galore! The golfcourse was not open but we hadn't planned on playing so that was OK. Such a relaxing time for both of us. Went to see The Magician's Nephew (C S Lewis) which was fun. That night we had dinner in the hotel - no drinking and driving - a small menu but beautiful attention to detail. Chatting with our waitress, hubby mentioned our anniversary and when she brought our coffee, she brought 2 glasses of ice wine from a local winery!
All told, a lovely break. Now, it's back to reality and the pile of laundry that needs some attention 😊
Have a great day.

Tasty--I just finished putting my congratulations for your 50th over on the other thread. So ditto here! LOL!
Well, folks, I took the Instant Pot on its maiden run last evening for supper. I did one-meal's worth of ribs just in case I messed up. I did a bit by misreading the directions and choosing the programmed mode for meat rather than the manual mode where I could control the exact time more precisely. So they cooked longer than necessary. Not horrible. They hung together when I took them out of the pot but fell into shreds when I cut them apart. Definitely falling off the bone. But they were very tender and delicious. I've done ribs in the stovetop pressure cooker many times. These were equally good if a bit more tender than I like. I think I could get to like this pot because it takes much less babysitting than the stovetop. I'm going to post a separate thread with more info for anyone who's interested.
Now, I have small canning jars to use for individual servings of yogurt. I think I will make that my next project.
The sun is shining brightly so I must get outside to do some yard work. I think that I will get some takeout for supper to celebrate spring--it might even be a picnic in the car. I haven't done that much this year yet for obvious reasons. Since it's now open season for trout, I may grab a sandwich and head to my favorite birding spot next to a good trout stream and watch the fishermen. I'm betting they'll be out in force today, too.
Have a good day, all.
Birdy

Happy 50th Tasty! Time goes by really fast when you are having fun!
DH seems to be having a good time so far on his trip. They lost his luggage but I had packed enough in his back pack for 2 days so he was good. Found his luggage this morning. He says the seas are a bit rough and they are rocking a lot but he is looking forward to docking later this morning in the Dominican Republic and he can go ashore. He got lost on the boat looking for his breakfast. LOL He met up with a group of retirees so he sat with them and enjoyed a good chat.
I will be cleaning house today and getting rid of somethings I have been wanting to! I did find some good HC yesterday. I found a Starbucks and had a great time just sitting and reading a book.
Hope everyone has a great day. Chris

Happy Sunday.
Tasty, Happy anniversary to you and your dh. That is wonderful.
Birdy, I've been thinking of getting an Instant Pot. Thank you for your review.
Youngest dd is sick. She started to get sick when we were out yesterday. We went to La Jolla for lunch and to enjoy the sunshine but had to come home.
I think we will have take out for our meal today. I want to clean the house.
Waving to all.
Betsy

If you decide to get one, Betsy, let me know. I have been collecting links to many, many recipe sites. I could post the best that I have found on here if people are interested. Considering the hype about the Instant Pot, I'm wondering if it's time to buy stock in the company! LOL!

Good afternoon, everybody. Cloudy skies outside and the forecast is calling for rain this afternoon, more rain tonight, still raining and maybe thunderstorms tomorrow. I'm glad we got outside and enjoyed the sunshine yesterday! We had a lovely afternoon in Greenville, walking through Falls Park and browsing in stores downtown.
Last night DH was up for several hours with an upset stomach, so he stayed in bed this morning while I went to church. I picked up Chinese on my way home for our dinner. He had egg drop soup and a little fried rice, while I enjoyed my sesame chicken and some soup as well.
Happy Anniversary to you, Tasty! Sounds like a nice trip -- always fun to get away for a few days, and it sounds like you both enjoyed the celebration. Congratulations on 50 years!
Birdy, I read your review of the Instant Pot with interest. I remember a pressure cooker blowing up in the kitchen when I was a child, so have never been inclined to get one myself. A lot of people sure do love them, though. Keep us posted on how you like it.
Chris, glad to hear that DH is having a good time and it sounds like you are getting some things accomplished too. Always a good feeling. Go ahead, have another HC -- you've earned it. ;)
Betsy, I hope your DD is feeling better by now. La Jolla is one of my favorite places that we visited on a trip to San Diego years ago.
Elaine, enjoy the visit with your sister! I hope y'all have a great time.
Waving to everyone who stops by later ~

Happy 50th Anniversary Tasty and DH!!!
Marge and I went out to dinner at the Corn Crib. I had a gift certificate to start with so we ate and can have another meal too. We had their Fried Chicken dinner and the chicken is so good. Will have that another time too.
There were a lot in church today too. There was fellowship again and it was great also. Just nice to see the sun shining today.
Have a great day.

Happy Anniversary, Tasty! NOTL is a lovely place. Hubby and I visited there on the spur of the moment several years ago and loved it. Birdy, you make the Insta Pot sound good. When I was a little girl I, too, saw the pressure cooker explode in my Grandma's kitchen. Frightening, with tomatoes everywhere. These new pots sound easier and safer. My usual Sunday today. I'll have hot roast beef sliders and corn on the cob for supper. Hugs.

Hi ! DH should be home within half an hour. They won 5th place brisket out of about 300 teams so they did well. They got a trophy and some cash.
It was cool and cloudy all morning but now the sun is out. We should make 70*.
Happy Anniversary Tasty! What a wonderful milestone. Glad you enjoyed a get away.
Betsy, sorry DD is not well. Hope it is short lived.
Birdy, happy to hear you are pleased with the Instant Pot. I think I would like one but I won't buy it for myself. My birthday is next month, so we'll see. I have 2 old fashioned pressure cookers in the shed. One is electric and the other is stove top. I almost never use them. I think I used the electric kind once. The Instant Pot seems more versatile.
I don't really have meal plans for today. I brought home an empty crock pot. I took it full, and by the time I got in line my pot was almost empty. It went over quite well. Maybe because the only other choice was pinto beans.
I think DH will be wanting to stay home so I don't plan on making him go out to eat this evening-unless he wants to. I will be happy with a French bread pizza.
Have a nice evening friends!

Afternoon, folks! It's a wonderful spring day here! It won't last long, though...New England weather is so fickle!!! Rain is on the way. HAPPY 50th, Tasty!!! So glad you enjoyed your short vacation! Ice wine...is that very sweet? Birdy - I'm still resisting getting an Instant Pot! My mom's pressure cooker blew up, but it was her fault for not watching it. I know you will enjoy "experimenting" with yours!!! Time outside sounds so good! Soon.... Tammy - Wow! That's a good showing for DH! Did you make the Pico de Gallo? Helen - Yum on the sliders! I thought of you when I picked up a cookbook at the senior center that had food tips and cooking tricks...I took notes!!! Elza - Hope DH feels better! Betsy - Hope your younger DD is on the mend. Chris - The DR is supposed to be a great place to visit, but we have droves of folks who move from there for the welfare they can get here. Did you get to Pigs Fly today? Tonight we are having boneless ribs that I trimmed, cut into chunks, and cooked in the slow cooker with onion and an Asian BBQ sauce I had in the freezer. I made some German sweet potato salad to go with. Hope everyone has a great evening! Waving!

This particular ice wine was not overly sweet Ann. Some can be. I could detect a taste of honey in the one we had the other night and even at that it was not super sweet. Very smooth 😊

I was not able to go with my son today so no When Pigs Fly for me! Darn it! I love that place.
Been talk with DH most of the day. He is just now being let out on the outside decks. Wind has been too strong. One person was blown so hard that he almost went over the rails and was hurt. So he has been inside since yesterday. Just let out about 10 minutes ago. Dan says the wind is still so strong it has almost blown the phone out of his hand. He does show me all his food! He is eating well! LOL Shown me all his desserts!

Hello friends.
Another busy day, trying to cook an extra meal to help throughout the week. This morning I placed chicken into the slow cooker and 4 hours later I had pulled chicken in bar-b-q sauce to pack away into the freezer. Dinner this evening was marmalade pork chops, zucchini fries, parmesan noodles, and the tail end of the marinated cucumbers.
Tasty, 50 years together--congrats to you and hubby. Here's a wish that love, joy, and laughter will be yours to share throughout the years ahead of you! Glad you were able to get away for a few days of R and R--very nice area.
Chris, sorry to see the winds have kept your DH inside, but thank goodness for the food!
Tammy, a big congrats to your DH on their 5th place win this weekend. That is awesome!!
Birdy, I enjoyed reading your instant pot review. Thanks.
Betsy, sorry to see youngest DD is not feeling well.
Elaine, enjoy spending time with your DS.
Elza, I think all the rain we were to get today went your way instead--dry as can be here. Hope your DH is feeling better this evening.
Ann, your dinner sounds good, esp. that German Potato Salad. I haven't made that in a while, so I'm going to put that in my menu one day in the next few weeks.
Marlene, you had me licking my lips for the fried chicken--glad you and Marge were able to go out together.
Helen, waving to you and hope you had a nice day in your part of paradise. Warm here, but overcast. I really wanted that rain, but no, guess it's just too early for the summer rains to begin.
My original sub position for tomorrow was cancelled yesterday. Hoping something else will still come through tonight or first thing in the morning. Bye for now. Waving to all.
Lori
