Had a long post all done and poof - it disappeared!
I really haven't given much thought to menu planning for this coming week. I've not been feeling that great this w/e, don't know what it is but I don't like it. I really haven't done anything more than necessary for a couple of days and that includes checking the freezer for what is there that I want to use.
I know there's a container of chilli that would just need defrosting - add some corn muffins and we'd be set. There's also some beef and vegetable soup that I made a couple of weeks ago to use up the odds and ends that needed using up.
If it comes to it, hubby can also turn out a decent meal so I no we won't go hungry.
Nothing much coming from the garden any more although we need to harvest the root veggies before we get cold weather and frost!
I know that not all of you have the same seasonal restrictions as we have in Eastern Ontario, so what do you have growing at this time of year?
Remember, waste not, want not!

tasty-sorry you're under the weather and hope whatever it is disappears over night and your energy returns quickly.
Tonight we just had burgers and oven fries, fresh carrots and leftover fruit salad. Monday will be turkey and gravy from the freezer, fresh corn, and the new-to-me 7-up biscuits which I'm anxious to make. Tuesday evening we'll be out and the rest of the week is still up in the air.
I only planted tomatoes and basil this year. The tomatoes were in pots and because they grow so big the nutrients are stripped from the soil early so my tomato plants started looking very sad a few weeks ago and all were picked. The basil is still doing very well. Luckily I have a friend that shares tomatoes when mine finish.
I was surprised when opening the refrigerator this evening and finding it almost empty, no leftovers to use up. Now I have to work on that freezer!

i just pulled out a seasoned burger for dh for his evening meal. i'll add salad & maybe pork & beans. i'l probabaly just have salad & beans. since i am not much of a meat eater i try to eat beans in ANY form daily for protein. i made morning glory muffin bars in the 17x19 cake pan yesterday. it has not just the basic carrot cake/muffin ingredients I toss in whatever else is on hand. yest it was chopped almons & walnuts chopped trail mix that included diced cranberrys, carrots, apples, fresh zucinni, choc chips coconut etc etc. if it was haning out in the kitchen it got chopped in the ninja & tossed into the batter with lots of spices. turns out delicious everytime & it is never the same mixture of add-ins. i cut & bag each one, then place in 2 gal. bags for the frzr. easy snack, breakfast or dessert with cool whip of course...yes, cool whip is my friend. need to make a box of jello today. & also this week i will start working on getting some of the broth i have saved for the past few mths intergrated into a variety of soups for the freezer for winter enjoyment. i can'r wait for the first cold, rainny, snowy late fall day so i can put on a pot of our homegrown heirloom beans & spicy cornbread! always smells so good on that frist really cold ugly day of late fall/early winter. The pantry is full, both freezers are full & so is the fridge. only buying what is gone & in need for the next few weeks. loaded with meats, canned goods, tom soup i canned last year, vegs & so forth. most likely it will be milk & fresh fruit MAYBE...i'm working on keeping it basic for as long as i can without shopping BIG again.

Haven't even given food a thought for this week. That is what happens when I get busy. Last nights dinner was great. I liked the pork in the schnitzel almost as well as veal but nothing can replace veal for me. The spaetzle was good but I forgot I didn't have any dry bread crumbs to add to the butter to dress them so used just melted butter which was fine but did miss them. I made it a real Oktoberfest, I downloaded poompa music to play.
Tonight is Lions' meeting so will have dinner there. The rest of the week is up in the air.
I still have tomatoes, bell peppers and carrots in the garden. I started my aero garden with basil a couple of weeks ago and that is about ready to pick and will have it all winter. I need to get the other one set up and that will have parsley and I am thinking sage it it.
Almond, I grow about a dozen tomato plants in pots on my big deck as well as in the garden. When you put your plants in the pots add some composted manure to the pots. This will help feed them. Also I give them a water soluble fertilizer during the summer. I find that determinant toms are the best in pots. They don't get a big and only set fruit once rather than continuing to produce blossoms all summer. My plants are looking bad now but mostly due to lack of water. I am bad when it comes to watering.

Bet...do you make your spätzles with a spätzle maker or cut them in the water with a fork? Love Kase Spätzles when we are at a German restaurant.

Doogle-I'm still coming to raid your freezers, probably your pantry also. I know what you mean about waiting for those cool, chilly, cloudy (no snow yet, please) days of fall and certain recipes. Just the thought of the smell of those fall favorites makes my mouth water...despite it being 83º and severe thunderstorm warnings here today.
Bet-thanks for the info regarding tomatoes in pots. I already printed it out and tucked it away in a folder for Spring. With all that yummy sounding German food happening and the music you turned on, were you doing the polka around your kitchen?
It's only Monday and already I've blown the semi-menu plan I had started. It was too late when it was time to start dinner so the turkey and biscuits just didn't work out this evening. Instead it was scrambled eggs, toast, and cooked bacon from the freezer, heated, which worked out really well and was fast and easy. Tomorrow we'll be out for dinner so just maybe? I can plan for Wednesday.

Pippin, I have a spaetzle maker. Have had it for years.
I didn't do any dancing but I just like to do crazy things like that once in a while. I love theme meals even though it is just me, I still prepare meals for one just as would for a table full of company.

Menu planning has gone out the window this week.
When I started this post we were on our way home from Williamsburg (had a great time there) and I really wasn't feeling that great. Turns out to be a virus that has affected my balance.
We stopped to pick up milk at a local store and hubby offered to make burgers that first night home. So we picked up ground beef and while in the meat department I saw some nice little steaks so added them to the basket.
Monday we had the burgers, last night I made shepherds pie to use up the ground beef (and it was easy). I decided to make a beef stroganoff with the steaks. Hubby went golfing this morning and it was the day the guys were having lunch. I had forgotten hubby has a meeting this evening, and he had had a big lunch so really didn't want an early meal.
So I had some haddock which I love and he will eat . . .occasionally.
Who knows what we'll eat for the rest of the week. I did check out the upstairs freezer and we won't go hungry . . but that's all I know.
