Good morning friends.
Betsy, Good to hear that both girls are doing well at school so no worries on those progress reports. We have a computer system too that we can check on the kids grades. Convenient and if someone has kid who fibs about their homework or grades, there's no getting away with it.
Tasty, I think the kids are looking forward to school even though they would never admit it lol. Happy that you found a dress, red is a nice color.
Bet, Hope you have a better day today.
Elza, Congrats to your nephew! I hope to see him on t.v. one day.
Lori & Helen, Stay safe. Those power outages are not fun, especially when it's hot and humid.
Marlene, How is red doing these days?
Last night we had steak for dinner and I cooked it perfectly, nice pink center. I'm still on the fence about what we'll eat tonight.
Enjoy your day.
Nancy

Good morning.
I hope everyone is safe in the bad weather. I am a bit worried about my mom as her house phone is out and she has not emailed yet. Wondering if her internet is out.
Dinner will be subs I think. I will go buy some Boar's Head meats later and then they can make what they like. Easy night for a change.
I have some work to do around the house today. General cleaning and picking up which never ends....
Have a great day.

Good morning. 55 and sunny. To be a nice day to be outside. Time will tell if I get there. I did finally manage to get cleaned next door. The owner pulled in just as I was finishing a little after 5. Got spaghetti sauce made and the Brasciola but the meat for the meatballs is still sitting in the refrigerator so guess that is what I will do today.
I ended up inviting my neighbor for dinner last night as I knew he would get anything for himself. Had spaghetti and meatballs (they were in the freezer) and a green salad. He was here for bacon and eggs this morning also. He is on his own until he leaves tomorrow. This kitchen is closed. Don't have any idea what I will end up fixing for dinner. It seems everything I plan doesn't happen so I guess I will know when I sit down to eat it.
Betsy hope you hear from your Mom soon.
Have a great day.

Chris, I caretake the property next door. It is a rental. I used to own it and we used it ourselves for a get away from our old home which is about 7 miles from here. We also rented by the week in the summers and by the week or just a few days at a time the rest of the year. He pays me well for my services. The number of rentals he has determines how much extra money I have to spend on my gardening. My son does the mowing, I used to do it but don't like to mow. Am lucky if I get my own done. I also check on it all winter to make sure the heat is OK etc.

Good morning- Jason brought back my front door all painted and looks so nice. He worked on three other doors in the house also so everything is good. He is a particular carpenter and everything has to work good and it does when he is done! Chuck is still going around putting rock everywhere it is needed. Such nice guys taking care of this 'ol lady !!!!
We will have T-bones that are marinating, on the new grill, salad and baked potatoes and garlic bread w/ apple crisp and ice cream for dinner. I had told them last day is steaks. I am going to let chuck cook his as he likes it well done but not me I like it after it is warmed up and moo is gone!
Took flowers to my friends who are celebrating their 50th anniversary today. Took a B-day card to another friend last night that I did not get in the mail. It is a guy and all I had here in cards work for ladies so needed to get a card so did that yesterday.
I got 50# of grass seed bought yesterday so they can till and seed that today. Hope we get some rain to help it out.
Red will be glad when these guys are out of his house. He has never got close to them as the 5th they will have been here 2 months.
Have a good day everyone!

Good Friday morning to everyone. We are having another great weather day with the sun out and nice temperatures in the 70's. I think I will go out on the patio with a cup of coffee this morning as the day's are not going to be many before it is to cold. Marlene steaks sound so good, especially cooked on the grill. My favorite steak is ribeye, and second is a good t-bone. I would love to see a picture of your house before and after. I know it looks great with all the improvements on it. Red will be glad when things get back to normal after 2 month's. I hope you have a good week-end. Waving hello to all others here and wishing you a great day and wonderful week-end.

Good afternoon, We were in a spot for only one night and then moved today to another one. No real plans today except doing laundry. I put a frozen pork roast in the crock pot and hope it cooks in time for supper. I don't remember ever cooking one in the crock pot before I put in a packet of pork gravy mix with it. I have some success rice I could cook but if we go out I may run by the grocery store for some potatoes. I used the oven lastnight and it worked just fine. Hope that keeps up. Not so good news on the microwave. DH spend a lot of time on the phone getting everyting set up between the warranty company and the appliance repair company to get the paperwork in order for getting our microwave replaced. Now that was a month ago. Today he found out that the appliance place never contacted the warranty co so NOTHING has been done. We had hoped that we could run up to Essex Junction, pay the repair place and then go and buy a new microwave and DH could put it in. Well, of course not, the warranty co says. It MUST be installed by an approved dealer or they won't pay. So, we are kind of back to square one. I do have that gigantic microwave/convection oven that was free. It's much too big for our slot above the oven and no way to make the space bigger for it. I like it a lot but not sure we will keep it since it is so big it takes up nearly all my counter space. When we travel DH has to pick it up and move it over to the sofa. We may just wait on everything until we get back to Houston, or Austin.
Chris, have fun camping this weekend. When we leave here we are going to Thornton, N.H. We will be there 7 nights, then move south to Ashuelot, N.H. Ann-I think that is the closest I will be to you. I had hoped to spend some time in a campground closer to Boston, but it's hard to find a good one. Either we are too big for the spot, the campground closes like September 30, or the price is exorbitant! After that we come back to Woodford, VT. After that we don't know. I put Dh in charge of finding a place.
Bet, how nice that you had the neighbor over for some meals.
I'm thinking a lot about Helen and Lori. I think we will be staying pretty much north of that system when it moves on up the coast.
I saw a note from Ellie on facebook. She has been quite busy canning.
The day is quickly slipping by so I had better get busy on the laundry. Have a nice day friends!

Good afternoon one and all! Hope you are having a good day!
Finally, after 3 weeks of waiting...the hurricane has left Florida, but the aftermath has been unpleasant to say the least! It's been 11 years since Florida was hit with a hurricane, and I hope it's another 11 before the next one hits! Although we've had some strong winds at time, our biggest headache has been the rain. As of yesterday, we had 10 inches, but it has been raining since midnight, so I'm sure we got another couple inches we could add to that. The news stations out of Tampa just went off the air after 14 hours of continuous coverage. I'm not sure of what city it was north of Tampa, but there is one that received 29 inches of rainfall!
Betsy, I hope by now you have talked with your DM and are no longer worrying about her.
The health department has been on tv this morning saying our next big headache will be mosquitos. Over in Miami-Dade county, despite all the air and ground spraying, 3 different types of mosquitos have been found carrying the Zika virus. Very scary stuff as they said "it's not will the rest of the state see these mosquitos, but when will they see them. The new fragrance we Florida people wear is Deet---stores can't keep it on the shelves (last week I had a hard time finding some so am now investigating alternate natural mosquito repellant). It can be a bit over whelming in a closed space when everyone is wearing it, but we'll do whatever we have to.
No cooking for me today, and probably the entire weekend. DH and I will be going over later this afternoon to keep DD company for a few days while her DH is working in Saudi Arabia. He is scheduled to be home on the 8th.
Chris, have a fun time camping this weekend.
DH will be home from work in an hour--need to go pack and be ready when he arrives. Waving to all!

Have finally decided on dinner for tonight. Will have a hot meatball sub. Did manage to get the meatballs done today and they are cooling in the sauce so I can freeze them hopefully later tonight but will probably wait until tomorrow to can the sauce. Got the kitchen all cleaned up and have started filling the sink with dishes already and the dishwasher hasn't finish the last load yet. I guess I can't stand a clean kitchen. NOT
Headed for town shortly to pick up the mail and will stop at the market for another package of the ground beef on sale and Hellman's Mayo that is on sale. May stop at the restaurant and see who is around and have a beer then home.
Lori glad to hear that the storm is moving on and you are leaving to go to your DD's. Enjoy
Tammy, that is too bad about the microwave. Sometimes warranties can be a real pain. I think they make it hard so most people would just say forget about it. Not me. The more of a challenge the harder I persist. If you do get into NY let me know. Maybe I can meet you somewhere.
Bet

Yes that is where we will be. The dates are Sep 15-22. I am trying to plan a couple day trips. One day we'll head to tour Ben & Jerry's; Cabot Cheese factory, and then I hope we have time to see Shelburn Farm. Another day we'll go by the Vermont Marble Museum (because my BFF's dad used to work for the Houston office of Vermont Marble Co); Vermont Country store and maybe Woodstock. Sunday we will be driving over to Queechee State Park to visit a friend. She is about our age, single, and lives full time in her motor home. No way could I do this kind of lifestyle without my DH! She is a volunteer at the state park for about 2 months. We met her last summer when she came to Texas and volunteered at the Escapees Care Center with us.
Still have not got the laundry done. As soon as I got off the computer, DH said he needed a prescription refilled from Walmart. So....off we went and I bought some groceries while I was there. I have been hungry for beef roast and found a nice one with a good price, so hopefully that will be on the menu soon-one of these days when I am home for a few hours to get it cooked.
Good to hear from you Lori! Have a nice visit with DD.
Today is a gorgeous sunny and warm day.

Afternoon, friends! Wonderful day today, but we are bone dry. Praying that the storm moves just a little more north so we will get some rain. Mmmm...love steak cooked on the grill! Last night's dinner was fantastic. If you like slightly spicy, try it! Tammy - I had never heard of Ashuelot, NH. It's not listed in my NH atlas, but I did find it in my Nat. Geo. Road atlas. That's a couple of hours from us. I have a cousin who lives in Winchendon, MA. There is a great cheese place there called " Smith's Farmstead Cheese". By the map, that seems close to where you are camping. Cathy, my cousin, sent me a box of their cheeses for my birthday. They make all sorts of Gouda cheese! They have a big country store. I'll look at our schedule...maybe we could meet in Winchendon. I'll check with DH...he would be the driver. Lori & Helen - Hope all is still well. We are having the rest of the corn/zucchini vegetable mix, hamburgers and a baked potato that I will make into a "salad"...mash it in skin and add vinegar, evoo, and onions. Waving! Have a great night!

We had hot leftover roast beef sandwiches for supper. We had less rain today but still some effects from the hurricane outer bands even though it's so far away now. Sounds like it will continue up the east coast and cause a miserable Labor Day weekend for a lot of folks. I am pretty tired so will wish you all sweet dreams.

Thanks for checking in you Floridians! Good to hear you all survived quite well.
Ann, I checked my list and we have reservations for the first week of October near Falmouth MA. It's the week following that I'm not sure where we'll be. We are flexible and have no certain plans for any particular day so we can meet up anywhere, any time.
