Good evening. I had hoped to get back on the computer yesterday, but we lost power in the afternoon. It came back on and all was well throughout the evening, but sometime between midnight and 1AM, it went out again. The house got warm and we woke up around 3AM, only to find it clicking back on. After an early morning rain, all was quite until this afternoon. As feeder bands move in off the gulf, we get heavy rains and strong winds as high as 71mph. As I sit here, the tv has clicked off three times, the lights have begun to flicker, thunder is roaring, and we have both tornado and flooding warnings. There is standing water everywhere (great for the Zika mosquitos that will come next) and the rainfall continues tonight.
Schools in my county were open today and I subbed. I felt like I was driving on a road through a lake to get there and when I got to the school, the parking lot was a lake! A lot of stalled cars along the roads and numerous accidents out there. A real mess and we aren't even in the middle of it.
Dinner was Sloppy Joe's, chips, pickles, and leftover zucchini. DH wasn't excited about it, but he was a great guy and ate it anyway.
Need to get off--weather is getting really bad. Goodnight. Lori

We're watching the weather reports about Hermine as well -- we'd planned originally to leave tomorrow after I get off work and drive down to Summerville (just outside Charleston) to spend the weekend with DMIL. However, it looks like we will have a big ol' tropical storm right smack in the middle of South Carolina tomorrow night. So we are thinking we'll wait and go down on Saturday, assuming the weather is better by then. Who knows what the forecast will look like by tomorrow? Hurricanes are so unpredictable.
I took off this afternoon for a couple of doctor appointments and was able to get a good grocery shop in between them. Finally I have some meat in my freezer again! That's one of the things that had gone by the wayside in all the craziness this summer. Anyway, after that DH & I went to Sams to pick up his new glasses, and look at some for me, and then had dinner at Longhorn, thanks to a gift certificate from friends. Salad, steak, broccoli, bread and warm carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. Yum.
Now getting ready to settle in for the start of the college football season with my Carolina Gamecocks playing at Vanderbilt. We have a brand new coach so there are lots of unknowns, and I've been a Carolina fan long enough to know that it's much safer to start the season with low expectations. :-P
On a more positive note, though, our nephew who's playing minor league baseball just got called up to the Yankees' AA team in Trenton, NJ. Flew from Tampa yesterday to meet the team in New Hampshire and pitched some in relief. He's done so well and we're really proud of him, and glad to see him getting the chance to do what he loves.

Morning! Pippin - Here's the link for " Cassoulet for Today" that my DH made. He said he doubled the sausage and added a touch more liquid...vermouth!!! [He loves cooking with wine; sometimes he puts it into the food!]

Ann, that looks really good. I think the one I made last winter was a pork based recipe.

Ann, thanks for the Cassoulet recipe...I am with your husband...like cooking with wine and having a glass when I am cooking. Tried a red Hungarian wine the other day...very nice.
