Good morning friends.
We had a bit of rain here and it will continue on and off through the day.
Ann, your new fridge sounds nice.
Chris, my kids would be at your side when making s'mores.
Youngest dd had friends sleep over and I'm cooking bacon right now.
Steak for dinner tonight.
Must run for now.
Enjoy your day.

Good morning Ladies! I am in my favorite Deli town for the day. Hoping they have something really good for lunch today, they have not disappointed me yet! I started the day out just fine. Decided to stop and get a Iced HC, went to pick it up off the counter and knocked it across the counter instead all over this poor man waiting for his coffee! Arrgghhh! Nancy- I would love to make s'mores with your kiddos! LOL I think I can smell that bacon!! We are going to have fish for supper. I think I will panko it and fry it. Talapia. Chris (sipping on an ice cold HC #@ as #1 was all over someone else!)

Good morning. 59 and was overcast here early but now the sun is out. I didn't do anything yesterday except search and read on the internet. I decided to have a big mac for dinner so wanted to see what I could learn about McDonald's fries. Very interesting reading and many different recipes for making them. I sort of picked what was common in all the recipes and made them last night. They were good but could have fried them just a little longer to have them a little crispier but I think they were the best fries I have ever made. Very labor intense to make just enough for one meal. I think next time potatoes are on sale I will make a big batch and freeze them. The get frozen before they are put into the final cook anyway.
Cameron and Natalie are here today so think I will spend the day in the kitchen. Ground beef is on sale this week for $1.99 a pound. It is usually almost $5 so I bought a big package yesterday. I am going to pull what I have in the freezer and make a batch of meatballs and also have a couple of flank steak that I should use so will make Brasciola at the same time and cook them together in a pot of sauce. That should pretty much kill the day.
Tonight I am making a boneless breast of chicken baked in cream of chicken soup, mashed potatoes and napa cabbage salad with my knockoff of good seasons Italian dressing.
Have a great day.

Good morning all.
Nancy, nice your girls are still off. I see they go back next week. Seems impossible to think we are finishing up our 6th week of school. Progress reports are coming home tomorrow but with Infinite campus and Jupiter grades I see their grades daily. Oldest dd is a whiz and school but I was worried about our youngest transitioning to middle school. Thankfully, she is doing great. Best wishes to your girls next week.
Chris, huge bummer that you spilled your drink. We are getting a drive thru Dunkin Donuts near us in San Diego and I can't wait. We have a small one downtown and it is a combo DD Baskin Robbins and just not the same as real DD.
Bett, your fries sound yummy!
Dinner will be hot dogs, mac salad and homemade baked beans. It's football night here.
Have a wonderful day all.
Betsy

Morning, friends! Muggy and cloudy again today...no rain in NE MA again! Double durn.
The "Cassoulet for Today" that DH made is delicious. Not as soupy as another one that he makes; I like it better. Tonight we are having an "Eating Well" pork recipe..."Honey-Harissa Pork Tenderloin with Saffron Freekeh & Baby Zucchini. Some of you may remember that I made a freekeh pilaf for a challenge one time. Anyway, freekeh is a lot like bulger wheat; it's an "ancient grain". Here's some info about freekeh if you are interested. I've got to get moving...piccalilli is calling my name...have to chop all of the veggies and get them into the brine. Will check in later. Waving!

Chris,
For peach coffee cake, I use my recipe for Blueberry Buckle, just cut up fresh peaches and sub them for blueberries. Bought some Loring peaches at the farmers market, I think I used 3 peaches. Here's my recipe:
Blueberry Buckle
1/2 cup shortening or butter 3/4 cup sugar 1 egg
Cream butter and sugar, add egg, beat well
2 cups flour 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/4 tsp. salt 1/2 cup milk
Add flour mixture and milk alternatively, beat until smooth
Spread batter in a greased 8x8x2" square pan.
Top with 2 cups blueberries (or top with peaches)
Top with a streusel topping (Combine flour, sugar and cinnamon. Cut in butter until mixture is the size of peas) 1/2 cup flour 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1/4 cup butter
Bake at 350 for 45-50 minutes.
Enjoy, Bonnie

I would love just one day that went the way I planned it. About 10 this morning got an email from the neighbor next door was on his way up from Delaware today and would be here early this evening. Of course I haven't cleaned since the last renters left since there were no guest booked until the end of September and he never comes Labor Day Weekend. However, it seems he has guests for this weekend and had to get the toilet fixed. Grrrrrr.
Got the brasciola put together and in the freezer to set up and went to the pantry to get spaghetti sauce to cook it in after it was seared and didn't have enough sauce to cook both the brasciola and the meatballs. Of course the meat was already out of the freezer thawing. So now I have a big pot of sauce on cooking.
The last load of bedding is in the dryer so will be on my way to clean next door and then come back to my cooking in about 2 hours. I am going to be until midnight before I finish tonight.
OK enough whining. It is my own fault that I didn't clean sooner.
Bet

Today I think we will resort to canned soup for supper. For lunch had leftover roast beef sandwich and a baby cuke. I have some chicken noodle soup and some veg. beef soups to choose for supper. Also, have some leftover chicken tenders in fridge. North wind today so a tad cool even with sun out. Just shut the doors as too windy through the house. I cooked the last 2 nights so can take it easy for tonight, I guess.
Time to go check the mail. Was up so early this morning I have been dozing on the couch listening some of the time to the TV even though I don't believe much about what the politicians say anyway. The program hosts have a great time questioning them anyway!
Mashed strawberries in sugar for dessert.

It really is a beautiful day here, no humidity to speak of and the temps in the 70s. My kind of day. we took advantage and played golf this morning. The grass was so bright green and the sky and lake a lovely blue - just gorgeous. (Of course we still need lots of rain).
Bet , I'd never heard of brasciola so had to check it out. That looks pretty good - may just have to try it one of these days. Great price on the ground beef.
Thanks for posting your peach coffee cake recipe, Bonnie. that's another added to my to try pile. OMG _ I'll never get to try them all but I think my hubby would like that one.
Bet the kids had fun last night, Nancy. Are they ready for Tuesday? Yes, I did find a dress for the wedding and am just waiting fofr a call to say it is in. It had to be ordered. I have tried on the same dress in another colour (black) and I tried a different dress in the colour I will wear - red. So everything should be good to go.
What a waste of a good hot chocolate Chris.
No Dunkin Donuts anywhere near us Betsy. Used to be when we lived in the city but not sown here. Only time we see them now is when we drive south in the winter.
Made a good cassoulet for us last year. Need to find that recipe again Ann now that the weather for that type of meal is getting closer. Great that your hubby likes to cook too.
Marlene, I'm sure your house is going to look lovely when the guys have finished all the work. You have done so much to it. Hope you have a good visit with the in-laws.
I have a little bit of ham steak left and some pineapple as well as some Italian sausage so I think I will get the bread machine out and make some pizza dough and use up the bits and pieces from the fridge. Haven't made pizza in ages so it will make a nice change.
Have a lovely afternoon.

Good Thursday afternoon to everyone. It has been a good day so far with nice breeze and the sun is out.I'm having a light supper again tonight as I think my system needs a break from food--lol. I don't know what it will be but there will be jello for sure. Marlene I'm so glad that you don't have to much to do for the in-laws now. Nice that they are in assisted care or nursing home, can't remember which. I know you will miss the guys when they are all done and nobody to cook for. I bet you hardly recognize your house as they have done so many improvements. I know you will enjoy. Guess I will go and see what I should be doing next. Have a wonderful day.

Hello from Vermont! We arrived here in Randolph.
Chris we will be here until the 8th then we leave and will head to central New Hampshire for 1 week. Next is southern N.H. then we come back to southern Vermont. We will be staying in Woodford (that's close to Bennington, I think).
Welcome to our cook's crock Bonniebee! Glad to have you join in.
Bet, sorry your day certainly did not go as planned. Your log home sounds lovely. When we stay on our friends 2 acres in Houston during the winter time, they also have a log cabin home made form a kit. It's very nice and roomy. They just had the carpet removed and got hardwoods. So now, they have wood walls, ceilings and floors. I think I would prefer a different texture and color for the floor.
Lori and Helen, I hope you are not getting pounded too hard from the hurricane. Living in Houston for so many years, I can relate to what you are experiencing.
Valerian, how was your no knead bread? I love that stuff. I don't make it often because I would eat the entire loaf , it's so good. I like to add shredded cheese to mine. I have a nice size ceramic pot by Paula Deen that can accommodate the high heat that I use for it. Believe it or not the bread does not burn!
Enjoy the new fridge Ann.
I am going to see if I can find my peach/blueberry coffee cake recipe. I tasted it and asked the girl who made it for the recipe, and was surprised when she told me that it was a Duncan Hines blueberry muffin mix. The recipe was on the box. OK, Here we go:
BLUEBERRY PEACH COFFEE CAKE 1 box Duncan Hines blueberry muffin mix 1 can (16 oz) sliced peaches 1/4 c. sugar 1/4 c. flour 1/2 t. cinnamon 2 T. butter Preheat oven to 375. Rinse blueberries and drain the peaches. Place fruit on paper towels to absorb excess moisture. Set aside. In a small bowl, combine sugar, flour and cinnamon. Cut in butter. Set aside. Mix the muffin batter as directed on package, but DO NOT fold in berries. Spread batter in a greased 8 inch square pan. Top with fruit. Sprinkle with streusel mixture. Bake 25 - 35 min.

We had a roasted turkey breast, dressing, lima beans, and cranberry sauce for supper. It's a Hubby fave. Last nite we had bands of heavy rain pass through. I think it woke me up each time. I do like being comfy and cozy when it's raining, though. I am still pretty full from supper but something tells me that after a few games of solitaire I'll be ready for a bowl of black cherry ice cream.
