I'm spending this morning in the gardens and have trimmed back lots of the perennials. The daylilies are starting to look scruffy - the flowers are all over for this year and some of the leaves are dying off. Should I cut them back to just a few inches or leave them?
Moved this over to the gardening chat where I should have posted it in the first place.

when ours are done & the leave begin to get brown, yellow etc. we mow them down & they send up new leave btut never get as large as they were before they bloomed. some spring it gets re-mowed to get rid of old tree leaves , winter debris etc. they come back up & bloom again just fine.

FWIW Tasty - I mow mine down, too! I usually take the hollow stems off by hand, then mow the rest. They come back each year, no problem!
