Good morning friends. We had some frost overnight, just 30F at 6.30, but another day of mixed sun and clouds and the temperature will climb to close to 50. Yesterday was about 60. I don't know if that was a record or not but it sure was lovely. I was out and about in just a pair of lightweight pants and a sweatshirt - what a treat!
This morning I have a new to me recipe for a cranberry tart - one I have looked at for years and thought I must try it. I will make it this morning and if it turns out OK some of it will come with me for the canning group to have this afternoon when we have our break. Other than that, I plan on a quiet morning - save my energy for this afternoon. Supper will be something from the freezer, possibly some turkey stew that is sitting there, just begging to be used.
Have a terrific Tuesday.

Good morning. 44 and raining very steady. I’ve decided I’m done hunting and will head home this morning. I’ve only seen small fawns and a few does and no doe permit. We have 2 in the freezer and thats plenty.
My mom took my niece to the orthodontist yesterday for my brother so he could hunt. He suggested she get 2 rotisserie chickens and stay for dinner. After we hunted we had dinner and about 6:30 we headed for moms. I was just ahead of her leaving his house (last house on a dead end dirt country road with lots of 90° turns on the road) and noticed her lights weren’t behind me. Thought maybe she forgot something and I kept going. After about a mile she called me and said she had hit a deer right after she left his house, like a block from it. Omg! So I turned myself around and headed back. She had already called my brother and he had got there before me and had already shot the deer. It was laying in the ditch and didn’t even attempt to get up when he approached. She wasn’t even going 20 mph and hit the brakes when she saw it. Minor damage to the car but since everything is plastic and sensors everywhere it will probably be expensive but her deductible is only $500. We were also shocked how much damage the deer had since she wasn’t going very fast. It had a broken pelvis and broken leg. He won’t get any meat off the back end as it was all bruised. I helped him get it gutted and hung up before we headed back here. Talk about a crazy night. My mom felt bad and it was the first deer she has ever hit. I’m like don’t feel bad you got more deer than me and I’ve been trying! Lol. I never saw the deer when I went past but its super dark out and it was raining. Had I hit it with the suburban it probably wouldn’t have done any damage to my vehicle.
I will leave here about 9. Waiting for it to get lighter and buses to be done running. Have plenty to do at home.
Have a good day.

Good morning everyone. It was 57º at midnight and is 47º now and will be 30º tonight. Guess they were right about the cold front moving in. Our high for tomorrow is 35º.
Yesterday was a busy day. I left home at 9:30 and didn't get back home until 5:30. I did my usual at Phyllis's and got her off with her DD to the doctor appointment. My friends picked me up and we went several places getting donations for our Christmas raffle. People have been very generous. It was pouring rain all afternoon, so we all got wet and cold. They invited me to go to supper with them, but I opted to stay home and get warm and just kick back.
This morning I have to clean for the lady minister. Then I will take Curt to the post office. This afternoon I have an appointment with the orthopedic consultant. I am interested in what he has to say about my left knee.
Tasty...thanks for opening. I hope the brad recipe is a keeper.
Melissa...Oh no on your Mom hitting the deer. With the damage done, sounds like the deer might have hit her. I don't blame you for calling it a year and being done hunting.
Elaine...I do get paid for what I do for Phyllis, but I wish her DD would be a bit more present with her care.

Good morning all. 9am and already 163° on my phone. 80° on my i/o door thermometer. 😂 EDIT, I switched the F° C° setting off and back on again, it's currently 73°F. I have no idea how it changed since I did have it set to F°
Marlene, that movie was very enjoyable. I'd see it again.
Melissa, sorry about the deer. I had to watch for that when I lived in NY. I remember seeing one and then waiting because, sure enough, another followed out right after it. Even here one did quite alot of damage to one of the pastor's cars.
Charlene, be careful with that knee. Especially with all the work you do for others. They need you.
Bet, happy cooking.
I have to get to our Ladies Missionary meeting. Have a great day all!

First of all, thank you for all the kind words you said about the wreath picture. An extra thank you to Charlene for posting it. Over the last 2 days I have received 1.3" of much needed rain. Tomorrow's forecast has snow flurries in it. Tasty, the cranberry tart sounds delicious. Maybe you could post it on the recipe board? Melissa, glad your mom was not hurt in the accident. Deer hunting season is open here and as a consequence deer are running all over including jumping from ditches. Charlene, I hope you get some answers to your knee problems. Knee surgery is probably in the far future for me as well. Wendy, my friend saw the movie twice and said she picked up on several points she didn't the first time. There certainly is a lesson for all of us in the movie. Off to the last Bible Study until Jan. Reach out to a stranger. Marlene

Good morning. Heading to Bible study soon. Then I'll do a little outside. I didn't work outside yesterday except for picking a pepper for my cabbage and changing the battery in a security camera. Spent time on some much needed cleaning in the kitchen.
Tasty, I hope your tart turns out like you want.
Melissa, sorry about your mom hitting the deer but good that you could salvage some of the meat. The deer that I hit some years ago did what Charlene said. It jumped right into my headlight.
Charlene, we are to get below 40 Friday morning and that's too cold for me.
Karen, funny you should mention Popes. I watched a documentary on Pope John Paul II Sunday afternoon. I'm not catholic but did visit the Vatican while he was Pope, about a year before he died, and remembered when he visited SC. What I found interesting, though, was his early life in Poland, especially during the German occupation. He was still a young man when the last of his family died also.
Gotta run.

We've been getting rain for a while now. It started early evening last night, which surprised me. I wasn't really expecting rain until later in the week, and definitely not sustained steady rain like this. As a result of the rain, I ended up not going out to get DH his Wendy's last night and taking him by a deconstruction site in town that interested him - at his suggestion. I was thankful he wasn't holding me to my promise to get it for him. He was being unexpectedly empathetic because I guess he heard me when I said I was concerned about my health and didn't really need any extra pressure. I got a phone call from the doctor's office yesterday telling me that the doctor wants me to have an ultrasound on my kidneys. It seems that my blood test wasn't up to par so he wants to take a closer look at things. I need to have a urinalysis done and repeat my blood test in two weeks. He also wants me to keep my appointment with my urologist on the 9th, which I fully planned on doing. Not much I can do until the testing is done but drink tons and tons of water to "keep hydrated". I'm choosing to not stress over this. That certainly won't help anything. DH is having tech troubles and I can't make that better for him. His laptop is making his browser screen about 1/4 of the size of the screen for some reason, but it will expand it when I click on the maximize icon. It just won't stay that way when he reopens the computer for some reason. All DH has to do is hit the maximize icon like I do to get his screen back the way he wants it. He just can't remember to do that even though I have told him at least a half dozen times this morning. I told him if he wanted to, he could leave the laptop open and the screen expanded instead of closing it and reopening every time he uses it. He just isn't remembering new directions and gets frustrated. I hope he cooperates with going to the doctor this morning. He made noises earlier about hating to go to this doctor. We need him to because she won't refill his prescription that seems to be helping to a certain extent unless she sees him and talks to me. Time will tell. I guess I better start the process of getting him ready now. I'll be back later. Have a terrific Tuesday.

Marlene, I have just posted it on the cooking thread. We just tried a slice while it was still warm and for us it is a definite keeper.
I'm glad no-one was hurt yesterday Melissa altho I'm sure your Mom is shaken up a bit. It's more than time that Phyllis's daughter stepped up in her mother's care. Hope you can get some help for your knee this afternoon, Charlene. Wendy I hope that was a typo and it really wasn't 163F this morning. Good luck with the kitchen floor Mary -not a thing I do if I don't have to. The guys are here this morning cleaning up all the fallen leaves Leslie. It will look so nice, at least for a little while. I'm sure there are more leaves to fall yet. Hope hubby is being co-operative about his visit to the doctor Karen. Time to go and get the ironing done.

Wendy I hope that was a typo and it really wasn't 163F this morning. No, for whatever reason my phone read Celsius even though it was set to Fahrenheit. I was just being cute.

Went to breakfast this morning at the smorgasbord and then we went next door to their fruit/vegetable market. It was fabulous, had stuff that I had to google to find out what it was. Lots of selections on things. Did not even go into the market side. They also have a full grocery store attached. Then went to a number of other places because she was doing Christmas shopping.
The temperature is currently at 59° and now mostly cloudy. We did have some sun this morning but it has gone away.
Have a good day.

We're back from the specialist's office. Getting DH ready was easier than I was anticipating. He still moved slow as molasses in January, but we started early enough that it didn't matter all that much. We had a bit of a shock when we walked in as the lobby was full. It hasn't ever been like that before. DH isn't patient when we go there to begin with so I was pretty nervous about how he'd be. I offered to take him back to the van and have them call us when she was ready for him, but he kept saying he would stay inside. As it turned out, two of the people waiting were for another office across the hall from our doctor, so once they left it wasn't such a bad wait. Two gentlemen waiting offered to get up to let me sit down. I eventually accepted. Both the doctor and her assistant were so thankful that we weren't angry about our wait. This time of year can be hard on people, so she needed to spend extra time with patients earlier which put her behind. My feeling was that if we were in crisis she would spend the time we needed with us, so she should do the same for someone else. DH behaved so well that I voluntarily offered to take him to Wendy's for lunch and drive by the demolition site he was wanting to see. He was pretty excited to get a salted caramel Frosty with his meal. I'm easing up on his dietary restrictions somewhat. Denying him things he likes all of the time won't make him better and it just makes life harder on me. I think I may have to do some comparison shopping on this new prescription for him, though. It's kind of expensive at Kroger even with their house discount. I'll see what Meijer charges and maybe change pharmacies on that drug. Glad to hear, Tasty, that you like the cranberry tart! New recipes that work out are so nice. Melissa, it is good to hear that your DM wasn't hurt when she hit that deer. It had to frighten her a lot, though! Fun way to lighten your mom's spirits, joking with her about her getting a deer when you didn't but hoped to. I can see why you would want to sit quietly at home after the day you had, Charlene. I hope your appointment this afternoon goes well. Wishing you, Wendy, a good meeting today. Marlene, since we are getting into a busy part of the year taking a break from Bible Study does make sense. We do that periodically also at my church. Glad you got the rain you were needing. I'm seeing snow is still in our forecast. It will, of course, come on the day I have to go for my ultrasound. I'd much rather sit inside and watch it snow. I know what you mean about those grooves in the floor that require you to do more than Swiffer, Mary. It takes some elbow grease to clean those floors sometimes. Bleach water is a good idea. Your high temp today sounds marvelous. I imagine that had to be a good movie on Pope John Paul II, Leslie. His early life must have been something else. Nice that you were able to pick a pepper. I probably won't get anything from my plants, but I did bring them in the garage and will pamper them as much as possible because there are several peppers starting to form. Carol, I'll bet it was a good time at the fruit/vegetable market. DH has become such a fruit addict that I will probably get him fruit for Christmas and maybe even recommend DSon do the same for him. He's okay with veggies, better than when I met him, but fruit is what he really enjoys these days. Well, I am going to get ready to give DH his afternoon pill and then go lay down. I wanted to go back to bed after his morning meds, but with his doctor's appointment that wasn't possible today. Have a good rest of your day!

Karen, my peppers have done pretty good this year. I have a bag of sliced and a bag of diced in the freezer and have used a lot while fresh. There are 2 medium sized ones that I'll pick in the next day or so for the freezer and then decide what to do about the small ones since we are to get below 40 Friday morning. While I love fall I'm never ready for the real cold. My back yard is covered with leaves right now that I need to tend to, plus the roof.

Good afternoon,
We've been a mix of sun & clouds today with temps in the upper 50s.
I finally decided to take the leaf blower to all my leaves, since I think they are done falling. I did the front today & will probably do the back tomorrow.
Has anybody ever made the Cracker Barrel Hash Brown casserole? That's what I'm making for the Potluck tonight. If so, did you defrost the Hash Browns before cooking them? Some sites say not necessary; others say if you don't, the casserole will be "mushy" because of the moisture from the ice crystals. That makes sense to me so I am letting them defrost. Some sites even suggest patting them dry before cooking. I haven't decided whether to do that or not yet.
Charlene, it sounds like Phyllis's daughters rather pay somebody to do things for their Mother than do any of it themselves.
Melissa, I know the deer incident scared your Mom. I've only ever hit one & it got up & ran away with no damage to the vehicle. Its a horrible sound though.
Mary, I can't even remember the last time I scrubbed a floor on my hands & knees or if I ever did.
