Good morning! It's another mild start to the day, but all will change when the gale winds pop up in a few hours. Because of the wind chill, it will feel much colder. Winds mean brush fires. It's beyond serious now. I went to the Veteran's day celebration yesterday afternoon. It was thoroughly entertaining and poignant. A few times, I had to view all through leaking eyes! There was a fantastic presentation by a couple playing their fife and drum. Wow! Had a rousing sing along of patriotic songs. We had the turkey tips dinner last night. Today we are having lunch with Duchess' new mom & dad. I'll order salads for our dinner, and we'll have the rest of the coconut shrimp and the last of the shrimp stuffed mushrooms. Will go to the gym in a few hours. My posture is straighter, and I have much more endurance now that I have a regular exercise schedule using the weight machines and taking the aerobic classes. Have a great day. Waving!

Good morning
Up and out and on my second cup of coffee and the last of my cookies. So even though I am not up to doing much of anything I need to make cookies for my morning coffee. Later in the week I'll start the Christmas cookies. I need to be in top form to start those cookies. Hopefully this stupid cold virus will be gone. Christmas cookies all are putzy, not easy drop cookies like I make for morning coffee. I have a load of clothes in the washer and then I'll start the cookies. The rest of the day will be dedicated to naps and resting.

Good morning, friends! Bet, another lovely picture---thank you for sharing.
Ann, enjoy your lunch today with Dutchess' new parents.
mamma, even though you're still fighting your cold, I hope that if up to it, that you can bake some cookies to enjoy with your morning coffee.
Making a new to me recipe I found yesterday in an old Southern Living magazine for a sausage and bean stew. DH and I think it could be improved with some minor additions, so I will head over to the stove and add those now. Planning to freeze for a later time. Dinner tonight will be either beef stew or mac and cheese. I defrosted both and surely have plenty for lunch/dinner the next few days.
Waving to all and wishing you a beautiful day! Lori

I am about ready to pull out what little hair I have left! I have been on the phone for hours with Optum regarding Dan's meds! they did not understand the difference between the Extended release and the regular Carvadopa/Levadopa. LOL They do now. I gave them what for!
My meds are straightened out too. I was afraid this would happen going to the mail order but I think we are good now. Way less co-pay but I am will to go back to the high co=pay if it means getting his meds on time and the right ones!
Otherwise I have started another batch of apple butter and will do the last of the apples up in sauce and can that. Might make an applesauce cake too!

Chris, your frustration today with your insurance has me shaking my head. I'm glad you gave them a lesson and a piece of your mind. Sort of reminds me of a problem I am having with my insurance, WellCare, but more with Walgreens where they say I must fill my prescriptions. Just 30 minutes ago, Walgreens called and told me the prescription that was called in by my doctor on Friday is delayed due to insurance. On Friday I was told they were out of stock, but informed they would have it on Saturday morning---it was not mentioned until today that the insurance will not cover cough syrup. The cough syrup has been at the store since Saturday, but nobody called all weekend to let me know that there was an insurance problem, nor that I could actually get the meds filled then and cheaper than with my insurance. They didn't call yesterday either to let me know of this problem. I gave them what for as well! Unfortunately, the filling of our prescriptions at Walgreens has been a headache this year after switching from Humana back on January 1st---so much so that we will be switching back to Humana once again beginning in January. Last year Humana wanted us to do mail-order prescriptions, and this year so did WellCare and Walgreens. I am sure Humana will do the same again, but due to my changing meds so frequently, esp. since I was in the hospital, DH prefers going directly to pick things up at the pharmacy. I am so done and over with Walgreens, that if I don't ever walk into another, it will be fine with me! As for the insurance company, I gave them a call and had some choice words to say to them as well.
Elaine, yes, the sausage and bean stew was able to be saved! Just added 3Tbsp. of tomato paste for some color/taste and then a pinch or two of sugar to cut the acid from the tomatoes. Cooling as we speak and into the freezer it will go.
Had a dish of mac and cheese for lunch so beef stew will be dinner. DH just left to get a tire rotated on his truck and pick up my cough syrup. He said he'd also stop and get a few fresh dinner rolls to have with the stew. No complaints here.
Need to get started this afternoon with my exercises for PT and OT. Later--- Lori

Will wonders never cease? Had a doctor's appointment this morning and she was delighted with results. Amen! She's very nice but I'm glad I won't see her again for the next few months. Nothing against her but I am never happy to see any doctor or dentist. DD gifted me another roast so will have that for supper tonite. I know it will be tender and yummy so looking forward to it. Sweet dreams

It feels like springtime outside right now -- sunny and 74 degrees -- although it was chilly this morning. It won't last, though. Highs in the upper 60s tomorrow and low 60s with rain on Thursday. I expect we'll have some warm days again, though, but they'll be fewer as the year comes to an end.
DH & I ended up getting subs at Jersey Mike's yesterday so tonight will either be sloppy joes or spaghetti since I have some frozen meatballs to use up. Thursday morning I'll put chili in the crockpot!
Bet, the view is beautiful but I bet that is some rugged hiking up that mountain.
Ann, sounds like you are thriving at the Baldwin! I love that the exercise classes are making a difference.
Mamma, I know you want your cookies so I hope you can get enough made to get you through till you're back to full strength.
Lori, what a mess with your prescriptions! I would be frustrated too. We've had a good experience with mail order overall. I have most everything on auto-refill. The only hiccup was right after Helene when all our meds were inaccessible due to the storm damage. Our doctor's office was great about sending replacement prescriptions to Publix but there was one medication that was more of a problem. Insurance refused to pay for it but since it was generic I just paid it all myself. It wasn't that expensive or I would have put up more of a fuss.
Elaine, you have a busy day planned. Have fun!
Helen, yay for a good report from your doctor. That's always encouraging. And a nice tender roast is good too. 😊
Chris, sorry you had to spend so long on the phone but hopefully somebody will know better next time. You're an educator -- you and Lori both! Didn't know you'd have to be teaching adults!

Hello, Elza, enjoy your springtime weather. As for us, it is 79 so more like summer! We are still running the AC.
Ann, the program yesterday sounds very nice. Glad you feel like your physical condition is improving.
Mamma, hope you get the cookies made. I just got a recipe for a cookie that my friend made for the mission a couple weeks ago. They smelled so good, and I wanted one badly! I refrained though. There were exactly 40 cookies and I did not want the mission to run short, but the manager felt sympathy for me and let me have one. So, I asked for the recipe and she shared. They are called spiced drop cookies. I will post it if you like.
Oh Chris, so sorry about the problems with yours and Dans meds. Did the person even speak English where you can understand them? Personally we have never had problems with mail order. I changed carriers 1 year ago so now just get my meds from the CVS. No problems so far. DH still is with Humana and get mail order mostly.
Great news Helen! Keep up the good work. DH lost 12 pounds since his last doctor appointment so he was pleased.
I got up around 7 and started the chicken ala king. The chicken was already cooked, so really just had to do the sauce, bake the biscuits. I made 2 watergate Bundt cakes last night. The serving girl sent me a text and said the chicken ala king was delicious, and she loved the cake. For her, that was saying a lot because she normally does not enjoy desserts.
Supper tonight is going to be grilled salmon, and a rice a roni on the side and some slaw.
For the brunch Saturday I am making a charcuterie board turkey. I saw some photos on facebook and will try to copy. It will probably be a combination of several different ones. Fruit salad on the side. We have a concert in Galveston with Debbie and Richard Friday night, so not much will get done beforehand. I will recruit my helpers Saturday morning to get er done!
Waving to all!!

As it turns out nothing is cooking here. DH had bloodwork this morning. He worked about half a day. At 5 when I was starting to think about cooking supper he gets a phone call from his doctor. It turns out his potassium is extremely low. He was instructed to go to the ER in Lufkin. He may spend the night. We got in the car, then he decided he would just drive himself there. I'll be anxiously awaiting news. He spoke with the Care nurse Judy. She said he probably would spend the night because they will administer the potassium slowly. Appreciate any prayers and good thoughts!
