Good morning! Saying prayers for all impacted by Helene...! Here, it's partly cloudy and cool. Supper last night was delicious and comforting. With the new menu, not sure what we will be doing. Going grocery shopping and getting ready for the housekeeping ladies to come. While they are working, we may take a trip to Aldi. It's German week, and I want to pick up a few things. We opened a checking account at the local bank, applied for a new credit card, and put a freeze on our credit (easy to do and free) with the three leading credit monitors. The links to each are in this article. Open the links and sign up for the free (NO credit card needed unless you want to sign up for active monitoring). Once you get a user name and password, you can click to freeze your credit. The bank person highly recommended that we do this. Enjoy your morning! Good morning. It is a bit foggy this morning and very wet outside but the sun is bright and the sky is a beautiful deep September Blue. It is 51°but will reach the low 70's. We ended up with a little over 2 1/4" of rain. Once it dries up I will work outside but that may take a while. This morning I have plenty to keep me busy here in the house. Still have to package the Lions' beef then will pack all the meat up and head to town with it sometime today. Will empty the dishwasher and start cleaning in the Bat Cave. That has become a drop off place for everything that I didn't feel like putting it in its proper place for way to long. I do have to write a check for my School Taxes and get them in the mail today. This is the only sunny day for the weekend so hope it dries up fast. I have 3 day and a long list of plans to get done preparing for the approaching winter. It seems I am always doing everything at the last minute.
Ann, hope the rain isn't too bad there today. How often does the cleaning folks come in. What do you plan to make German. I have tried a couple of things but haven't done a lot of German Cooking. I should get back to making theme dinners.
Have a great day.

Good morning. Kathy asked if I could walk Blue again this morning. It probably does me a lot of good as he has a faster pace then me.
I also watered at Janices for an hour and picked up bird feathers and palm tree stuff.
I have swim CLASS IN AN HOUR. I THINK I will start my bookclub book.
Ann- is there not a lot of choices on the new menu? Or just undecided yet?
Bet-Our guest bedroom has become a catch all. The social club welcome person just got back so I will be giving her the box back with the welcome packs and our cookbooks. Plus, I have everyone's mail in cloth bags on the bed.
I have UNO this afternoon and pinochle tonight.

G'Day Mates! Well, we are going to get a little bit of Helene today. By noon we are to get 70 MPH winds and LOTS of rain! We need the rain, but it pretty much washes down when it rains so hard. So, "really" looking forward to this afternoon!! Bet, I love the deer! That is one of the things I miss not living in the UP...among others. But, NOT the bears! I am still a little weepy about my kitty, but thinking hard about a new one. We can't decide if we want a kitten or an older cat (like us). I, too, have a house that needs a good cleaning, but I have been going through recipes and stitching. Eventually, the get up that went will return.
Hi Elaine....you sorta snuck in there! What is the title of your bookclub book?
Enjoy the day! tm

Good morning. A nice cooler morning but it warmed up quickly towards a HOT afternoon. Mandy and I joined Mary and Emily in the big pet area this morning. Just a nice little chat and then off we all headed for home.
Last night when going to the fridge freezer for ice, I found everything thawed. It happened once before so I thought it was because I hadn't closed the door tightly. Well that is not the case. The freezer part was off for hours this time. I had to put as much as I could into the upright freezer. So this morning I called Samsung, not a company I like to begin with. They said it's all was out of warranty. The fridge is only 18 months old. So I have to wait until 9 to contact a repair person. I've hated that fridge from day one, but I could not talk Mark out of it at the store. Now I'm paying for the poor decision. If I had the money I would get rid of it. In fact I would like to sell it after it is fixed and use my door money for a good fridge.
Sheets are in the dryer and now I need to put clean back on the bed, or I could wait and just put the clean ones from the dryer back on the bed.
Not sure what the rest of the day will be like, so I may just hide.

Back from shopping! Got mostly veggies and the usual pantry items. Didn't see any meat with markdown tags. I did find our Saturday dessert on markdown....lemon slice cake! The grocery store is within walking distance to the Baldwin, but we drive. On the way over, I spotted an adult bald eagle!!! We circled around a few times before going into the parking lot. Made my day!!! The new menu includes something I've never had...cornbread stuffed quail! The beef this time is carved beef tenderloin. Pork is sorghum braised, and the chicken is apricot glazed. Seafood includes crab cakes, salmon, salsa butter shrimp and coconut shrimp. Vegetarian choices are pasta of the day (a surprise!!), stuffed eggplant, and falafel burgers. Side dishes included buttered corn, mashed potatoes, fries, Brussel sprouts, glazed root vegetable, butternut, and sautéed mushrooms. One of the condiments is 'espagnole sauce'...had to look that one up! It's a brown sauce like au jus. Bet - The gym is right across the street in Building E on the first floor next to the pool. All of the amenities are within walking distance, and one doesn't have to go outside to get to anything. There is a land bridge connecting building E and the other buildings. The dog park was just fenced in and we can see dogs scampering around having a blast with other dogs! This spring there will be garden plots available to residents. The house cleaning crew comes every other Friday. Time to get moving before the crew comes!! Waving!

So sorry to read of the devastation caused by Helene. Even my brother in Ohio is having heavy rainfall as Helene moves along. FL still holds a soft spot in my heart so I grieve as yet another hurricane does such damage. Had my grocery delivery cancelled yesterday as the delivery truck was in an accident on the way here. Rescheduled the same order for this morning and it arrived this time with everything on the list. I got a nice fresh sesame bagel from the bakery so will smear butter and cream cheese on it after toasting. Delightful as the melted butter drips off my chin. Otherwise I have an uneventful day ahead. Sweet dreams

Hi ! Just got in from work. I have a few things to do around the house before the pot luck tonight. DH made brisket and others are bringing: potato salad, fruit tray, bread, green beans, apple salad, and 2 desserts. Sounds like a feast to me!!
Today was sunny, only in the 80's with low humidity-a perfect day!
Our boy dog started limping yesterday for some reason. He was fine when we left for work, came home for lunch and he will not put any weight on one leg. Cannot imagine what could have happened. If he is not better by Monday we'll take him to the vet.
Better run and get errands done so I can take a very short wee little nap!

OMG!!!!!! It is pouring here and the wind is howling around the house. We have white caps on the lake! And a branch about6 inches in diameter ripped off a maple tree and wound up on our house deck. This is lake side and the wall that is all glass - pretty lucky that something didn't get broken. This kind of rain I don't like!! My DH called this "Sheet rain."
The pictures on the telly of the storms are heartbreaking.

This is the first chance I've had to get online today. We had hours of very strong winds last night and early this morning. Lost power about 6 but got up and dressed and DH had just texted his mom & siblings that we had made it through the storm -- when a huge tree fell on our house. Into our master bedroom and bath, hall bath, attic, and part of DH's office. I am so very thankful that we were not in that room so no one was injured. But it is going to be a long rebuild. That whole end of the house is pretty much out of commission, including both full baths. Also, all our clothes! I had to make a run to Kohls and buy clothes, shoes, underwear, everything! We've already filed the insurance claim and talked to folks about tree removal and water damage. DH switched off the electricity so it won't come back on, and the gas company was supposed to come this evening to turn the gas off and check the meter, which was dented by the tree. Right now we're in a hotel in Hartwell, Georgia, for a couple nights, until we get a better idea of what's ahead.
My phone was in the bedroom so it is under the tree and I'll go to Verizon tomorrow to see about getting a new one -- it was due to be replaced anyway. I realized today how important it is to have people's phone numbers written down somewhere because I didn't know any of my coworkers' numbers -- they're all in the phone.
Oh well, we will get through it and there are so many things to be thankful for. DH is glad that he didn't have a new roof put on the house back in the spring when he was considering it!
I'm glad everybody here is doing okay and of course it was so good to hear from Lori yesterday.

OMG!! You were fortunate to have been in that other part of the house! The Lord was watching! I can't imagine how scary that was. But, you are safe and that is what is most important. Now, the hard work and decisions begin. God be with you.

Elza, I am so sorry that your home has been so heavily damaged but thankfully you both were in another part of the house. The crashing sound of the tree must have been horrifying.....The most important thing is that neither of you were hurt. I send hugs, Doris
