I mentioned in the daily VIP thread that I was probably going to try to save my Thanksgiving cactus. I've begun that process after watching a video on YouTube. What I am still wondering about, though, is how often to water and the type of lighting that would be best while I wait for the rooting to begin. I have the two clippings on the TV in the office where I had the plant originally. It did okay there, but seemed to do better in the family room - as it bloomed and grew new leaves. The lighting difference is the office is brighter than the family room. I think I will probably remember to tend to them better in the office, but I wonder if the family room is a better bet. Any ideas to help me in this venture? Thanks!

I have mine in bright light inside. They even get some sun in winter and they do fine. I’d say for propagation in bright indirect light. I keep mine outside all summer in the shade and need to repot them before they come in so was thinking maybe I’d do that soon. My one has bloomed outside already this summer.

I am going to just keep this cup where I have it since you have good luck with where you keep yours. I have a pic of it I planned to post, but PI is down right now.

I have mine on the porch now and need to repot before bringing it in i think. I has gotten a lot more leaves over summer. Last year a leaf broke off and I stuck it in a tiny pot. It eventually rooted but took a long time. Now it has several new leaves. Not sure where I'll put them when I bring them in since the cats get curious. They haven't really bothered with plants on the porch this summer but who knows what they'll do when they are inside. I'll definitely have to use lights though.

How's this looking for a good spot? I have the pieces in that clear plastic cup.

Also recommendations on watering while rooting are welcome.

Karen....I have those plastic covers with elastic that I often put over things while rooting out. It gives them the greenhouse effect and helps keep the soil moist requiring minimal watering. If you don't have them, you can make your own out of plastic wrap and a rubber band or buy a box from Dollar Tree. I swear by them! I always buy a few boxes for our Bingo table at Christmas and they are one of the 1st things to go. I have my DD and DGDs hooked on them too. Charlene

I have snack baggies that might work for this. I never thought about them or going with a greenhouse effect to deal with moisture. Glad I asked and you answered.

Charlene,my DT doesn't have those. In fact I don't remember seeing them anywhere around here. But then I haven't really looked for them.

I get plastic bowl covers from DG but they are in a plastic bag, not a box, and probably cost more than DT.
