Hello all...boy has today been a wasted day. After 2 pots of coffee this morning, Larry and I both discovered that we still couldn't get motivated to do anything. I think we were both tired from the weekend. We decided to declare today a day of rest and relaxation....and it truly has been. I spent more time than usual on the puter since I am trying to figure out my picture program thing. A couple weeks ago Picasa Web that I was familiar with switched to Google Plus....much harder to manage photos. I suppose I will figure it out eventually.
I did manage to make and frost 2 chocolate zucchini cakes. 1 is for us and the other is for our Grandson's birthday tomorrow. He is excited since he will be 16 on the 16th of '16. He also is excited because he will get his driver's license. That is always important to every teenage boy I think.
I picked another flat of tomatoes this morning. I took a container to our 87 yr old neighbor lady and she was ticled to get them. I hope Lily stops by and takes some of my hands some time this week. I know she was busy today with signing the closing papers on her house.
Sandy...sorry to read that you and your DD are having some problems. I remember once when our daughter wasn't speaking to me. My Mom had a saying for everything, so she simply told me...."leave them alone and they will come home, dragging their tail behind them." She did just that.
Leslie...also sorry to hear about all of the problems in your family. If you are comfortable talking with your minister, maybe you should confide in him just to get some of that off your mind and he may have some very good advice for you. Hugs, my friend.
Guess I'd better think about supper. I know we are having pork steak but not sure what else with it.....oh...and cake for dessert....lol.
How was youe day everyone? Charlene
Edited to add....Larry was watching the news while I was typing this and he told me that the lady on there said that today is "National take it easy day." Now we don't feel guilty at all for observing that...lol

Good evening. Charlene, you and Larry work hard all the time. You need to take a day to relax once in a while. The cake sounds wonderful. That is funny about the 16s. I would be saying the same thing.
I managed to get the lawn mowed, although it took several hours with all the breaks. And I'm still tired and hot, even after a bath. I also got my hair cut. A lot more of the color is gone now so it won't be long before I'll be all gray and white. It does feel better shorter.
I cooked spaghetti for supper, but DGS only wanted to eat the garlic cheese toast I made to go with it. Guess he might be going to bed hungry tonight.
I think I'll go watch tv in my room for a little while, while he watches his shows in the den. I don't know if I'll be going to get DS and GF tomorrow. She is off but they haven't asked and I haven't offered yet. It will be good when they get a car again but since they lost so much on the one he totaled it may be a while before they save the money.

Good evening. Just catching up on the posts. Just another day at work for me today. Thankfully it was much cooler but am tired tonight.
Had a great but busy day yesterday. Spent a good portion of the day cooking for my guests last night. The meal turned out great and the conversation was even better. However they were here until after 10 so way past my bed time. Also cleaned the house which took quite a bit of my time. It is great to come home from work to a clean house for a change. Now if I could only keep it that way. I will be in bed early tonight, I think. Need to get off here and get something for dinner.
I am so happy to see so many new faces and a lot of old friends returning.
Have a great evening.
Bet

Good evening! I can't complain that the weather was bad today. Actually it was great.
Having my DGS here is nice. I have company, and so does Zorro. I think my dog is out of shape. He can't keep up with my DGS.
This afternoon my friend/neighbor, and my DGS decided to go to the pool. I have to say he is a 'slave driver'...lol. To do a kilometer in the pool I have to walk 44 times across the length of it. I find it's enough for me. However, DGS, my part time coach, insisted I do 50 laps....hmmmm (slave driver).
I really must continue weeding....at some point

Good evening. My day has actually been rather productive for a change. I got my menu planning done early. It feels nice to have that behind me. I went up to the church to get my yard sign. I forgot my umbrella, so of course it started raining while I was out. It actually rained for a large part of the day, not hard, but it was rain. I was not able to get anything on DH's family history from them because I wanted info that was too old. To get it, I am going to have to contact the Diocese downtown in Toledo. I don't want to go down in person because it is a pain in the butt, but I may email or call them to see what happens there. If I get something, I get something. DH doesn't care all that much anyway.
After I got home, I worked mostly in the kitchen. I got a head start on supper by getting the cucumbers, tomatoes, and onions marinating. I also made some Waldorf salad to go with the meal. The rest ended up being hot dogs and potato chips because I got worn out with the other parts. LOL! All in all, not too bad of a day for me.
Charlene, I think you and Larry celebrated the day perfectly. As Leslie said, you two work very hard at other times. Today was your day. All the talk of chocolate zucchini cake got under my skin. When DH went to the store, I had him pick up a couple for me. Not sure I will make a cake, but we are having zucchini soon, and he didn't even bat an eye at the notion. When I first met him, the only vegetable he would touch was corn. That blew my mind! I guess his mother didn't care for veggies, and since DH and his sister were bringing up the rear in a bunch of 5 kids, she didn't find it necessary to force them to do much of anything. Anyway, I'm glad you were able to relax for the day.
I so agree with you about feeling better after I cut my hair shorter, Leslie. Washing my hair is much faster with short hair. Your new cut is really attractive on you! It was a good choice. Glad you were able to get your lawn mowed. That is a big chore behind you now. Hope the kids can get a car again soon.
Robin, I love your siggie! I noticed right away, and it made me smile. I'm happy to hear that you have gotten some rain. It has been missing you a lot lately.
How nice to hear that your dinner for your guests went well, Bette! I'm glad for you. You put a lot into it all. Isn't it great to come home to a cleaned up house? I always love that if I can get things in order before we go away. Shoot! It is even nice if I go to bed and have the house picked up. The next morning always starts off better that way. It is awesome having the board be so successful, isn't it? Job well done to you and Charlene for all of your hard work paying off so perfectly!
Stella, I'm glad that your weather was good today. That always makes the day better. How nice that you and Zorro had the pleasure of the company of your DGS! Visits like that are wonderful.
Well, I guess I ought to get moving on now. Have a nice night, folks!

Good evening folks, So nice to have this evening chit chat place to come to. I read all of the posts. Kind of tired tonight from doing nothing I guess.I did go get a few groceries I needed and planned on fried green tomatoes tonight but just didn't have the energy for that. We are getting a nice rain and looks as tho it will continue through Saturday so my planned garage sale is still waiting. It was supposed to have been last thurs. Fri and Sat. but because of all that happened last week that just didn't happen. My impatiens are still so pretty on the front patio. Even tho we had terrific rain Friday night.Wish I could post a picture of them. I always stick to the coral theme out in front because my home is a tan brick with brown roof and trim and I like that combination. All of the wood fences are brown too and one little shed in the side yard is brown too. I will probably pop in here once more before I go to bed to see what else has been posted. Do any of you watch that live camera of the brown bears in Alaska? Well it is down right now but they have been showing over and over a really nice video of the highlights until the camera are up and working again.. I have watched it over and over. there is a wolf in the river in one part of it. Just type in Brooks Falls Live Bear cam and you will find it. Very relaxing to watch it and you can also hear the sound of the falls. Mary

Good evening all. I had a day like Charlene and Larry-did not plan to but it turned out to be another day of mostly rest and computer. Did not feel top drawer yesterday so missed church but better today. Did a bit around the house and mostly wasted the day. I have been watching the yellow finches working over the seed heads on the cone flowers. This morning, while I was on the deck with coffee etc, the birds were all quiet and in the 7 sisters rose bush when suddenly a large hawkish bird flew in and landed on a metal wheel right under the rose. They went to the top inside very quickly and he took off. There used to be one that lived in the top of a tree across the vacant field behind the school but it moved on a several months ago...this could be him back hunting the old neighborhood.
I made some potato salad and egg salad for supper and for DH to 'batch' later this week as I am going to Denver to take DGD to college at Regis Univ. I found out the difference between Spin Blend and Miracle Whip in taste. Will not use Spin Blend again for Pot salad.
My purple ruffled Datura got it's first bloom today-so pretty. If I knew how to post pictures here, I would put up a pic. It seems to have a scent similar to a lily. The white ones in the large flower pot had 9 blooms earlier but they have faded away. The blooms do not last long.

Been a muggy day and tonight it is, too. May have a storm later on the TV said. It was on and off cloudy today. Birds busy in feeder 6 or more bluejays in the feeder at once and then mourning doves were there, too. Still have the grackles being a nuisance everywhere.
Didn't do much today, but refill bird feeder and cleaned out a dresser drawer and put some tops I no longer want in the bag to go to the church used clothing place so they can resell for a bit or donate to St. Vincent's. The clothes won't go to waste I know that. They will find a home for them. And, that is good. I have closets to go through and will begin that soon. And, books to go to Book Nook at the church FunFair in Sept. and also some planters on stands and a large blue painted inside container to go to the Plant Booth there. No longer use them so may as well donate and they can sell them, This is a big fundraiser they have yearly for the Catholic church here.
Browsed through a magazine for a bit and then I fixed hash and eggs for supper, broccoli, applesauce, bread & butter. Simple meal, but was enough.
I have pj's on now so going to browse some of the morning paper I haven't seen yet. Sure gets dark a lot earlier now. August half over already! Time flies.

Hi everyone! Had to chuckle at your day of rest & relaxation, Charlene! All you did today I would call a full day of work! 😊
I also made a chocolate zucchini cake today. Sent most of it home with my daughter as Ray said it just didn't grab him! Likely shouldn't have made it when he was around. Heaven forbid that there should be something green in it! What a fuss pot! 😊 At least the borscht I made suited him.
Nice that it is finally cooling down. Got so humid for awhile. Looked like rain all around us but none here so far. The day isn't over yet. So, time will tell.
Mary, I have been enjoying the brown bear live cam you mentioned. Hopefully the camera will be repaired before the salmon run is over. I gather it won't be long now. The most bears I saw at one time was 15. Quite amazing I think.
I'm hearing thunder rumbling off in the distance. So, we may get wet yet! Might not have to water my plants tomorrow. You'd think I had acres growing instead of my measly half dozen pots! 😊 Musn't forget to check my cucumbers as there will be some ready for picking. I'm surprised that 4 seeds could produce as well as they have.
Time to check the PVR as I might have a few shows taped. Haven't looked for a few days. Mind you, it's August & there aren't a lot of shows.
Goodnight & see you tomorrow.

I am back.
I had just said good evening in the other post when someone knocked on the door. It was son #2 to pick up some tomatoes.
I took a huge bag of tomatoes and a large bag of cucumbers to work and put them in the production breakroom. They were all gone at first break.
It got to 84º and was really nice feeling until the humidity hit about 1:00.
I work 8.5 hours and then came home and took a nap, felt good.
Robin I also really like your siggie. I usually don't care for the moving ones but yours is slow enough not to irritate me and I love the can, flowers and butterfly.
I better get outside to have a cup of coffee out there while listening to the grasshoppers, crickets or whatever they are before it is totally dark. You are right Posy, it is getting dark so much earlier now.

The good news is, we finally got rain...the bad news is it came in the form of a thunder storm with winds. Brief power outage, just long enough to have to reset everything. We may have more later tonight. Gayle, I think it's heading your way. There was some wind damage in the Maryland suburbs.
I did get out to get my hair cut today. Happy about that. It feels so much better. It grows so fast!
Will watch some of the Olympics and read my book. All have a good night. Joyce

Just popping in to say hello to everyone. It's been another humid day here. Went out to tidy up some containers and change the hummer feeder and oriole feeder and of course the skeeters were wanting dinner as well so had to come in.
More rain in the forcast so we shall see.
Well my fingers don't want to type anymore so I will just say, Goodnight all.
